alternative icons for nato counters?
alternative icons for nato counters?
I really don't understand nato counters that well, and the 3d models are fine if they could be used together with the 2d map, but they can't. Unfortunately I find the 3d map confusing - so is there alternatives to nato counters that can be used together with the good looking 2d map?

RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
Unfortunately, no. The value of the counters is that they show a lot of information in very little space, it's hard to do that with the models, I think that if I compressed them to fit, they would be hard to see.
There is more information about the units in the on screen tooltip and unit view on the top right.

RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
I'm sure that modders will soon have alternate counter sets posted.
RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
without none nato counters, most older none groghead player won't be able to understand the counters i'm sorry to say, while i've been playing for 38+ years aged 50 this year, i've never liked or understood or ever wished to learn them eg Nato etc.
so it's seems i'll also be waiting for a modder to fix it for me
so your not alone jnpoint

RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
They really should have included a NATO counter legend in-game OR put the NATO "NAME" somewhere in the unit info. Is this possible? To have the NATO name included in the Unit description?

Yes, but in-game would have been so much better and easier, especially to learn as you go. It "seems" like an easy update, no?

RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
for me it's a slight error or over sight not to have someone on the alpha and beta who doesn't or won't use a given thing, in this case Nato icons, and then from the start, something can be planned and put in place, for what is always welcomed and used, once done.
but as long as it can be modded, it's no big deal, just some will wait until it's done and they see them, and as long as they like them and can use them in everything will buy at a later date.
kind of like having all windows 7 and 8 users on a given test and finding out later on release it doesn't work with win 10 for some slight and easy to fix reason,...
in game tips and pop up plus a NATO name chart / table included in the Unit descriptions in game would have been better for most including me.
not everyone can or wants to memorize a manual or have it open on a second or 3rd monitor just to understand a counter or part of a given thing.
this isn't a negative post, just my opinion and wish the game all the luck and success, same as any war game, as you can't have too many war games, i know, i collect them[:D]

I've always had the theory that if you plan for the most, then you upset the least, but if you plan only for a given audience, then that is only the ones who buys and plays long term.

RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
I don't see it as the same as any of that. The icons are chrome. Yes, some of them give the units special abilities, but those abilities are listed in the Unit Report. It's the abilities that matter, not the graphical representation of them.ORIGINAL: zakblood

i disagree slightly, as for me it makes a big difference if i can't understand if i'm moving a infantry unit or a horse and cart, or tank even.
so will have to wait for some modders to do there magic before playing[&o]

RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
But the icon doesn't necessarily tell you that. The designer can put anything he wants inside the unit, regardless of the icon. Again, it's the capabilities that matter. And those are available in-game, via the Unit Report.
RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
ah i think i understand now, you can't use a given representation of a lets say tank for a given unit, as it maybe a mixed force etc?
that makes more sense, and also for the different time periods you would also need the outline of different hardware etc etc for the silhouettes etc
now i understand[&o]

yes a friend on here made them, and I've asked for more of them when he has the time as they did help in that one, but it seems it maybe a harder task than first thought in this game, as how it's been explained above by Curtis Lemay makes it harder for a modder to do a default non Nato counters to cover all the bases / units involved etc maybe a rather massive task, but will have to wait and see and hope and pray someone has the skill and time needed so more like us can enjoy what seems an epic game, so fingers crossed[;)]

RE: alternative icons for nato counters?
Besides this, that WitE set isn't self explaining either, what are those counters that look like the Rook in chess?
