Victory Points and objectives

Post by spinecruncher »

Very basic questions: Are all V points listed on the map? I think the answer is "yes." Regarding objectives, are there ever scenario objectives that are scripted and are separate from the VP's?

Also the feature I see in the far upper left menu/button option, when it is clicked on you get an objective pane, which can be placed on the map. Are these merely player optional, and is anyone using them? Are they new to TOAW4.?

Thank you and sorry for all the questions!

Edit: Also, can someone explain what is a "friendly loss penalty?" or "enemy..."

thanks again!

Victory points are on the map as an option button and can be displayed in a couple ways as in floating or not.
the other questions should be handled by more knowledgeable players'

Not all victory points are on the map in the form of objectives. The scenario designer can program events that award points for just about anything. They can award points for destroying units. They can award points for capturing a location (even though the map will not show a victory objective for that hex). They can award points automatically, without either player having to do anything. If the scenario is well-documented, the briefing should list the events that result in victory points so the player isn't completely in the dark.

The loss penalty is a number of victory points that is deducted from each side for total casualties taken in the scenario. The side with the smaller loss penalty then receives the difference as a victory point bonus. It is calculated by the game, but the scenario designer has some influence in that he can scale the losses to have a greater or smaller impact on the victory total.
Grab them by the balls. Their hearts and minds will follow.
