Issue air attack and don't appear in the planner

Post by Fred98 »

I am playing the 1950 Korea Tutorial scenario.

I use aircraft to make a ground attack on an enemy ground unit.

I select "Combat Planner".

I expect my friendly air units to appear in the combat planner with the little red arrow on their counter just like ground units do. However they don't appear. What am I missing?

PS: I note that the attack does in fact go ahead.

If I understood you correctly, you first ordered the airstrike via right-click (this is indeed the easiest way to issue such a direct air attack), and then opened the combat planner on the target hex.

The reason you are not seeing your air units is that air units in the combat planner would appear in the Support box, and the air units that appear there are the ones that are in range (and with the proper Combat Support mission) to potentially support the ground attack planned. Since you have already assigned those air units to the airstrike, they are not available to support any ground attacks anywhere, and thus they do not appear on the combat planner.

I stumbled across a more complete answer:

Set up an attack. Air units will attack ground units.

Click on the button "Combats awaiting to be resolved".

Note that my air attack is listed and gives the hex coordinates.

Click on the hex coordinates button and the combat planner will open on that attack.

This time the air units are shown and they have the little red arrow on them!
