Dual Monitors

Post by drbyte »

Hi,

Just downloading the game and getting use to the interface.

I came across hidden window problem that makes the game appear to crash.
This is simple to reproduce.
1. Start up a new game doesn't matter what the options are
2. Wait until the game is loaded and all the windows have appeared on the primary monitor
3. Move the Main Dialog box that contains the menu to the secondary monitor
4. On the secondary monitor click Interface->Player Interface Settings
5. The game will appear hung
6. Use the following key commands Windows+Shift+Right Arrow Key
7. The Player Interface Settings dialog is displayed

This bug would be nice to get resolved.

Thanks

Here is the bug again.

1. With the Main Dialog with the Menu is still on the secondary monitor, exit the game
2. The Decide Yes or No; or Cancel Making Decision dialog tries to be displayed, game appears hung
3. Use the key sequence to see the window, Windows+Shift+Right Arrow Key

Not sure if this is more of a hidden forms issue than it is screen layout, but the key sequence Windows+Shift+Right (or Left) Arrow Key could be valuable for hidden air combat forms, providing you have two monitors.

It might move the form "covering" the one you need onto the other monitor.

According to Windows keyboard shortcut info: Press Windows logo key + Shift + Left arrow or Right arrow to Move an app or window in the desktop from one monitor to another.

Worth a try if the covering form (i.e. window) has focus.

I could understand if there was other dialogs open on the monitor where I moved the Main dialog, but this only dialog on this monitor is the Main Dialog.

The reason why the key sequence works is because the Interface->Player Interface Settings pops up a modal dialog but the modal dialog is not displayed until the key sequence is executed. Because the Player Interface Settings modal dialog is the top level dialog and no other dialogs are accessible, the key sequence works. I am not sure how this key sequence would work on non-modal dialogs.

One other point, if I keep the Main dialog on the primary display all is well, the Player Interface Settings dialog opens on the primary monitor. It is only if I move the Main dialog to the secondary monitor that Player Interface Settings dialog does not get displayed and cause the entire game to appear as hung.

This is a simple reproducible, can development have a look at this problem?

I played around with Windows logo key + Shift + Left arrow or Right arrow on my screen layout (picture of it is accessible from the link in post #3). Any of the windows on the left that I gave focus to could be flipped back and forth. All except the Main Form stayed on top of the detailed map, but as soon as I saw the main form disappear I reversed the process and got it back because I knew that trying to access it from under the detailed map would be a PITA.

This could be the best solution to the problem of active air combat forms being hidden and inaccessible compared with all the other methods that have been suggested thusfar (providing a person has two monitors [:(]). Those forms are also modal and make the game appear to be hung when they are inaccessible.

drbyte is this key combination only in Win 10? Thanks.

Thank you for reporting this with a clear example of how to reproduce it.[&o] I fixed all this today. Presently I'm working on some other stuff but should have a Hot Patch available which includes this fix before the end of the year.
