What are you playing now?

Post by larryfulkerson »

I thought it would be an interesting tidbit of Matrix History to know what kinds of games are going on right now.
I'm concentrating on my D21 game right now and I'm wondering how many other games of D21 are going on.

What are you guys playing right now?

I got the Steve (sPzAbt 653) syndrome... I find myself thinking about creating scenarios/tutorials rather than actually playing them! :O

Yeah, and Rhinobones said something along those lines too. I can well imagine the fullfillment you guys get from building
scenarios and have people actually like playing them. And saying so. Good for you.

I'm playing "Campaign for North Africa '40" (Italian start) as the Axis. I'm on turn two, and my valiant Italian troops are advancing (mostly) unopposed in Egypt. Alexandria lies just beyond the horizon... [:D]

I assume you mean you're playing aginst the PO....where are the British ships? How come it's mostly unopposed? What
happened to the Indians? You've stated that you're on turn two and you're advancing.....cool. I'd be one who would
like to follow your progress. Any chance of an AAR?

The Italians have (like it historically happened) a " grace period". They advanced in Egypt almost unopposed (the so-called "Graziani Offensive") before they were stopped cold by... uhm... themselves: having made their show of force so to keep Mussolini happy, the Italian Army built a line of fortified camps - mostly unable to support each other - and waited (the game forces you to advance by having to conquer three named objectives by turn 5). It was in Dec, 1940 that O'Connor launched his famous "Raid" and routed the Italian Army. Hadn't a good chunk of his forces been diverted to Greece (a very stupid move, as everybody could see even then), O'Connor could very well have kicked the Axis out of NA before the DAK could enter the fray.

Sadly, I do not have the time to do an AAR. However, I'm curious to see if, as the Italians, I'll be able to do better and hold longer than the RL counterparts. [:)]

Bought the game last week and just now got time to play a bit. Was looking for a D-Day to Berlin scenario (and disappointed there isn't one included with the game) but stumbled upon Overlord 44 while I was looking and am going to give it a try as Germany. Love the scale and the map on this one.

Does that scenario use the 19th Century Database? That would be cool.

Lots of converting and tweaking of pre TOAW IV scenarios going on, as you may have noticed [:D]

My "Saves" folder currently contains the following

American Front 1914 Entente PO 5.sal Playing as the US

Berlin 1945 12.sal Playing as the Germans

Italian East Africa 1941 Pizza Force 11.pbl ...that's the Italians of course

Hm, I assumed it did, but now I am curious myself. I have the scenario open in the editor, is there a quick way to check which database is being used?
I just bought the game a couple of weeks ago, (my first TOAW iteration, I know, I know), and don't really know my way around at all yet.

Most 19th century (and before) scenarios use that database
If the Graphics Override folder contains a folder with the same name as the scenario you want to play, then it will most likely contain a modded database of some kind and/or modded terrain graphics

I thought I was the only guy that had several ongoing games. I've got folders that hold the files I
produce. I'm working on my D21 game right now. When I get bored with that or need a break for
some other reason I can work on one of my other games. There's also, periodically, a PBL file that
the PBEM++ system writes but I keep deleting it.

Thanks for all the scenaros you're producing. You're a golden community asset.

I like variation... One of my PBEM opponents has his peak and down moments due to his job, so I always make sure I got something at hand PO-wise

Thanks... I wanna have my own collection up-to-date, so why not share it with the community while I'm at it [;)]
