How do I edit Single-Unit Airbases so that they can be attacked?

How do I edit Single-Unit Airbases so that they can be attacked?

Post by JPV511 »

Using the editor, what can be done to alter the status of Single Unit Airbases so they can actually be attacked, yet, maintain their original air-ops which the original scenario author created?

As far as I know Single-Unit Airbases can be attacked but not completely destroyed, I think they will only go to 99% damage.
Anyone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

The short answer is, you don't. These bases are intended to be a simple means of sticking an airbase someplace so the player (or AI) can do operations from it. They are used when the scenario designer did not intend the base to be attacked.

If you are designing a scenario that requires airbase facilities to be attacked/destroyed, you should create discrete facilities rather than using the single unit base. If you are a player and want to attack it anyway, you should probably re-read your briefing orders. [;)]

Can you describe the overall problem that you are attempting to address? Usually there is more than one way to accomplish something.

Thank you for the replies, pjb1 and Colonel Mustard.

Simply put, I'm new to CMANO and for sh*ts and giggles I'm just playing around with nukes. In an experimental scenario I've been successful in annihilating every known target except for these Single-Unit Airbases. With all due respect to the author and to the community, I'm cheating the scenario (Chains of War - Korean Ground Game) through the editor so this is a hack, but the question in hand did come up.

Anyway, I'd like to attack said bases and destroy aircraft on it before they can be launched. What weapons can I use to damage the bases to 99%? Is it possible to manually target the empty land in the vicinity of the bases and let the blast radius reach the bases?

I've never tested it but my wager is that any aircraft hosted will be invulnerable.

as said above, single unit bases aren't designed to serve as realistic targets, they're just to save CPU cycles on what would otherwise be a few hundred units composing a base.

use another scen or replace the base with the airbase assembly kit components and nuke those if you want a more realistic effect.

i mean the effects are basically that everything dies spoiler alert

In "Politics are local" I read it as: Try to accomplish your mission and do what you need to do.

I don't think it explicitly asked me to keep hostilities low, so naturally I set up preemptive strikes on all the Chinese airbases and ports, just to be sorely disappointed...

Hi JPV511

The only way to destroy a single unit AB is to nuke it.
Place a target(any facility will do) close to the AB, and nuke it. The fireball will then destroy the AB.

As other users have already said.

This is of course not what the scen designers had in mind, but for just playing around and experimenting, this is a very effective way to kill single unit ABs.
I have done so my self numerous times[:D]

If I remember correctly, this is actually how "Wargasm 1962" is designed. All enemy ABs are single unit but with target markers right next to them, and since this is a nuclear scen, it works like a charm.

Thanks for the further enlightenment, Cik. As with Luckschaden I'm also attempting pre-emptive strikes on the airbases.

Hi Schr75. Thanks for that suggestion of adding units for the other side. I think once I'm successful with wiping these targets out, I will be sufficiently gratified from ever having to cheat with the editor. [:D]

Thanks again everyone. I haven't been captivated by a PC "game" in a very, very long time.

Glad to be of assistance and remember.

It´s not cheating if you have fun.[:)]
CMANO is basically a giant sandbox, letting you try out all your crazy ideas and tactics.

I regularely mod scens when I want to see how a certain unit or weapon would do in a situation.

That'd be WW3 with my wife right there. No editor needed. [;)]

I planted Russian Bar Lock radars adjacent to the Single-Unit airbases which my AGM-69 nuclear cruise missiles were able to target. The airbases were destroyed along with these radars. It was marvelous wiping out every known target in N.Korea within the very first thirty minutes of the war.

I totally got my nuclear fix. I will avoid the editor for the time being and master this awesome simulator!

Thanks again Schr75!
