I think the defense values have moved to the other side of the counter.

The sequel of the legendary wargame with a complete graphics and interface overhaul, major new gameplay and design features such as full naval combat modelling, improved supply handling, numerous increases to scenario parameters to better support large scenarios, and integrated PBEM++.

In TOAW 3 the defence values were shown on the right side of the counter.

In TOAW 4, page 95 of the manual, the defence value is shown on the right side of the counter.

I downloaded the patch today. If you open any scenario, the defence value is now shown on the left side of the counter. This is extremely confusing!

So it's just the anti-personal displayed on the counter ? But it seems that sometime there are rounding errors or something doesn't add up. And I definitely don't understand Fred's screenshot as sum of all attack points is 14, not 13. And it displays "1" :-( and yes, it seems inverted.

What's the reasoning behind using Anti-Personnel/Defense as the defaults instead of Attack/Defense values?

I would guess it depends on the enenmy unit .. if it's armor, infantry, air, etc. You might want to know your strength against this specific unit ?
