Rolling the dice

Post by Joseignacio »

I think I remember an option of the game that let you decide whether you'll input the result of the dice.

I see it normal to make tests or solve problems coming from bugs (for example, the game has a CTD after you get a surprise in a naval combat and you want to replicate it when you load again.

... but IIRW there is no warning to the opposite player that the dice are being set manually. Is it like this? If so, couldn't you implement a warning? Most people are honest but you can always find a black sheep.

We use an online dice roller that Emails the result to all players to keep everything above board.

Is it like this in all the game modes? I haven't tried it myself but it would be a bit weird to have the option without notice in a Netplay/Hot Seat-game. In a solitaire game I don't really see this as an issue as long as the other game modes work.

I have used online dice and shared screen to see the rolling, which is more agile IMO, Allen, but still it takes time and you need to be organized for example to be sure the other guy can see it when you roll...

And I believe a pop-up warning when this mode is selected, not in every roll, shouldn't be a problem for a project like this.

It was not supposed to be available for NetPlay but it currently is. It can actually be helpful when working around a minor bug and replicating what happened up to a certain point. OTOH, in NetPlay one of the sides does most of the die rolling so the opportunity for abuse is rather large.

I think the simplest solution is to show all die rolls to all players when "Set Die Rolls" is on - with an asterisk beside them.

Well, that could be useful as well, provided that the asterisk or whatever mark there is, is clearly noticeable.

That's a very good point JoseIgnacio and I completely agree with you. Setting dice rolls is a very convenient option for certain circumstances, but it should be user-friendly for those multiplayer games (in any of their forms).
