France declares war on Belgium?

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

France declares war on Belgium?

Post by Gopropak »

Got an interesting result on my first game of StratCom. I wanted to explore the game a bit and invaded USSR in Nov. 1939. I ignored the whole western front until France got tired of waiting around and tried to blitzkrieg thru Belgium. It's an interesting map for sure! So far I am doing okay but having supply issues in the East. I'll need to read up on how that works since I am within 5 hexes of Moscow (May 1940) but have zero supply on my lead units. The Kriegsmarine made it to Canada before 1940 so they are making life miserable for the convoys. Italian Navy just left the Med. I think I'm having supply issues with them now tho. More reading to do....

Fyi, see: tm.asp?m=4198212

I tried this too when I first started playing the game (with the very first version), but it did not end well.

In my experience, missing out on plunder MPPs and resource MPPs, by not defeating France early, does not bode well...

Cheers,

Trying this strategy against a remotely capable human player will be disastrous for the Axis.

Well i had to try it. I would have always wondered.... Basically Germany just ran out of gas. Getting by with 200 MPP per turn doesn't work against the Soviets 1500+. Not having ports for my navy was miserable too. Got swarmed outside of Moscow and the Western front couldn't get by without an HQ. Berlin was gone by Spring '42. I did make it to Cairo tho with just the Italians but France took Rome a few weeks later so that was for naught. I've still got some scenarios mulling around in my head...If I could just get the Soviets to swing to the Axis. What are the triggers that may help them swing Axis? Germany attacks Finland? Don't attack Poland? Max diplomacy chits to the USSR?

If someone wants to play around an 'all of poland-USSR rush' grab vs the AI, you still have to beat France first. Basically, attack France in autumn 1939 and, with some cooperative weather, conquer them by the spring 1940. You'd be ready to attack in May just before the USSR grabs the Baltic states. Or right after if you insist in destroying its northen border units. [:'(]

Wouldn't try it above Intermediate level though. [:'(]
