Not Connecting With Server

Post by danieljcammarn »

I have had continuing problem connecting with the server for internet play. I receive the following message "failed to connect to WIF message server..."

I am able to post games. I receive messages from my opponent. My opponent sees me when I log in, in the box in the upper left. However after about 30 seconds I am notified that I am not connected to the server. Requests to start games fail

I have tried turning off my firewall as the message suggests and that does not make any difference.

I have had difficulty with my user name.

My opponent and I originally made up our own user name/passwords.

When neither my opponent nor I could log onto the server, Matrix suggested that we change our user name/passwords to our Matrix user name/passwords. This seemed to have fixed my opponent's issue.

However I still had problems. I tried that and I found the Matrix had lost my user name/password. Matrix was able to re-create my account by using an old Slitherine account. I received a new Matrix account using my old Slitherine username/password.

Could there be a problem that the server is looking for my old Matrix user name/password I used when I first registered for internet play?

If not, what else could be the problem?

Suggestions?

When you went back to the old Slitherine account settings then that should mean you and your opponent need to use that old name when naming players for creating a new game. Could that be it?

Also, using Notepad, check these files in your MWiF folder and see if the text there makes sense given your reversion of account settings (perhaps they were created before that happened):
NetPlayReg.txt
NetPlayRegistration.txt
