Carriers in port.

Post by FlyByKnight »

This is a question that arose following the latest turn of my PBEM. It's a bit too late, but I feel the need to clear this up.
Can the fighter groups on a carrier that is disbanded in port take part in Sweeping missions with the right CAP settings? Can I get them to sweep the port their ship is docked at?

The obvious question is - "Will each shell do at least 0ne Million Dollars worth of damage?" If not, someone needs to look at this again and rethink it.

You cannot sweep a base that you own. Not as far as I know ....

+1

You can keep them operational however if you fly them off the carrier to the prospective base on the turn previous to docking and then put them on LRCAP covering their TF on the way in. If your sweeping the airbase where you hope to refuel your TF then the situation is beyond redemption (for the IJN) or your worries are unjustified unless you've already given away the ballgame.

You can in a way ... when you set a squadron to CAP you have the choice of Escort or Sweep. When I do not want my fighters leaving with the bombers I set them to Sweep CAP. I see no difference in how CAP works with this setting.

RE: the OP, I don't know if the aircraft will take off from a disbanded carrier. I suspect not. Offload them to the base to be sure.

Aircraft will not fly any Mission from a disbanded carrier. However as mentioned you can have them transfer to the base and then conduct cap missions from there....GP

Sweep missions are generally conducted over an enemy base and when it is complete they land....GP

Think about the logic. A carrier needs to be moving into the wind at fairly high speeds to launch aircraft. Which is not what a disbanded carrier in port is doing. So you will need to remove any air unit to the base to conduct any air mission with it.

The problem with flying them off to the base is stacking etc., and all the limitations that go with it.
