Any good?

Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is the latest release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series and focuses on the largest, concentrated British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to penetrate the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the stalled advance moving again.

Any good?

Post by Q.M »

This is the one and only CC game I do not own.

Moving forward and looking to purchase, is it any good with regard to it's predecessors?

GTC is very similar to PiTF with a few new wrinkles -
1. a rolling artillery barrage or normally targeted arty barrage can be set in deploy to start at the beginning of battle.
2. AT guns can be given 'camouflage' by setting them to ambush in Deploy. This reduces their visibility until they fire.
3. Arty and mortar barrages can be tweaked in the Campaign.txt file for accuracy and more/less rounds/tubes/delay per barrage.

The chief complaint, as always, is the lackluster solo play AI. Which is a particular issue when you play the defending side.
