Combat odds

Post by PanzerRobert »

Let's say I have a attack and it's projected as 3 to 1 in favor of the attacker(me) and I now add artillery support, it's now projected to 3.4 to one. So is there a 3 to 1, 3.1 to 1, 3.2 to 1, 3.3 to 1, and 3.4 to 1...ect combat odds chart? I see a basic combat results chart( whole numbers) but I'm just wondering does having a slight fraction up really help me? I'd image a complex (which is good with computer software)odds chart plus a die roll to determine the results?........PanzerRobert

Hi, yes fractions matter, so 3.1:1 is better than 3:1.
The odds are linear so the results for 3.5:1 are half way between those for 3:1 and 4:1, if you know what I mean [;)]

It does, but you have to decide if that .2 increase by throwing in an arty attack is worth the loss of cohesion incurred by that arty unit for participating in the attack. Sometimes, it might be better to give them a rest if their cohesion is getting low.
