Intesting Combat: USS Maryland vs. I-158
Okay, due to previous ASW damage, the I-158 was caught on the surface in a phase and had to duke it out with 2 DDs, a CL and the USS Maryland.
It was a forgone conclusion the I-158 was a goner, but what got me was the plethora of torpedoes the I-boat shot at her tormentors. There were three different salvos against the CL and BB.
The question I have is w/r/t reload times. Did the I-boat shoot three salvoes of 2, which would be historical, or did the boat fire 3 salvos of 6, since that was probably the total number of shots the boat could fire from forward tubes. That would implausible due to the time it would take to reload 6 tubes-over an hour.

God made man, but Sam Colt made them equal.

Battleship salvos are a great motivator, when being applied personally [;)][:D]
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Use it or lose it? [:D]

They were each a salvo of 2 I suppose, but fired in a great hurry on an alerted enemy. Sometimes this can produce a few hits (especially in a convoy with slow cargo ships), but you usually lose your sub.

Is there any way to see how many torpedos were fired in each salvo?

Even if the sub were reloading torpedoes during that encounter, the game doesn't really specify how long a given encounter is. There's just a day phase and a night phase. Speaking abstractly, it's entirely possible that a given encounter that happens in one combat animation is several hours long.

I had a similar and even more amazing submarine encounter not long ago in my game.
I wasn't going to post about it but now that this thread is up I feel compelled.
I had two crippled British cruisers limping to Tavoy from a dust up off Port Blair.
They crossed path with a U-Boat, who's commander proved to be the baddest SOB on the battlefield.
The U-boat took a shot at the escorting destroyer, that proceeded to pummel the sub and forced it to surface.
The destroyer missed its first round surface shot and the sub proceeded to put TWO fish into one of the cruisers, sinking it immediately and then put a third fish into the other cruiser.
Finally the destroyer found the range and sunk the sub with a single round.
The second cruiser sunk one hex out of Tavoy.
So this baddest of the bad, U-Boat commander took two cruisers down with him in his blaze of glory. [X(]
The combat was so exciting I was cheering on the U-Boat commander while he was sinking my cruisers.[:D]
Gotta love this game.
I'll try and dig up and post the combat report when I get home tonight.

First Khan put all the crew in cryostasis. Then he loaded them into the torpedoes and fired them off, hoping they would not impact an enemy ship but would beach themselves on islands with fertile females.

Nope, not prison. It is called a GRH (Group Residential Housing) facility. I am about half a mile from a lake where there is some nice fishing from shore. I am 12 miles from the closest town.
