Changing terrain in scenarios

Post by Khanti »

Is there a simple setting in the editor that can be used to change map view (terrain, forests, hills, cities) just by importing whole terrain set from a graphics mod?

_GC Graphics
alt
FourSeasons
Realist

I just wanted to change map view in older (classic) scenarios.
The only way I know is to put modded folder as "default" in Advanced Tactics Gold\graphics\default\
But maybe there is a way without file manipulating...

There is no such thing as a historically accurate strategy game. Every game stops being accurate from the very first move player make. The first unit that moves ahistorically, first battle with non-historical results, means we ride into the unknown.

There is a way, but it is more fiddly. Also it is limited what graphics you can use with what scenario, especially the older ones. This is because more graphics and land types were added in more recent versions of landscape graphics packs / mods. In other words, you cannot do a one to one conversion, but need to pick and choose if you do so.

Anyway, the most correct way of doing it, is to go into each landscape, in the Land menu, and there replace the prehex sprite with the prehex sprite for the new landscape you are using, and then doing the same for the special layer (x64 or x6 depending on your choice of mod/graphics pack). Realist mod is ideal since it is a one-to-one mod with the older ones. The rest you mention are not.

Of course if you want rivers and roads to change too you go into the rivers and road menus. In the river section you must replace all the sprites with the new ones, for each river. The same goes for roads, and they must be done individually. Roads and rails are an exception at some times, for newer graphics, since you can choose a fredsheet, and get them all that way. Finally you need to change the bridges which is also done by replacing sprites individually.

A quick but dirty way of getting the realist mod graphics in older mods is to go into the Setng menu. There you go to the Import & Other settings property sheet. You can then import landcape types from the realist mod, and loctypes would perhaps be good too. Use a scenario that already has the realist graphics. If it fails, you've done something wrong...

Thanks Claus.
I did it.
It was so hard to understand what to do in editor.
But once you finally understands it is doable.
I've changed all terrain in one of your earlier scenarios "1933Europe". Plus I've added TOE and some small changes.
I will try to put it in scenario bank.

Interesting. It could use some love, but I rarely go back to something once I start a new project. You can do whatever you want with it. :)

Also I as afraid my instructions might have been too hard. But it seems they were just right :)
