New scenario for testing: CWCAFR 1.1 Scorpions

Post by B52H »

This is the first scenario in a multi-campaign series based upon the thought of “what if the Cold War never ended in 1989.” CWCAFR takes place in Africa from the Sahel to South Africa and from West Africa to the inland borders of the countries bordering the Indian Ocean. The number of scenarios in the set is undecided, although operations will span from Nigeria to Rwanda.

The Soviet Union has somehow survived the turmoil from 1989-1991, and has emerged in a weakened state. The Warsaw Pact still exists, although many of its member states are reluctant to support the Soviets militarily and economically. Both NATO and WP troops are deployed across the world supporting peacekeeping or military operations.

Rundown on the events leading up to the plot:

o Mikhail Gorbachev was overthrown in a coup in absentia at the Malta Summit in December 1989. Holes in the WP were patched up
o Germany is still divided, although growing dissent has been occurring in the East for the past 5 years
o The Soviet Union is struggling to survive economically; it has opened up limited trade to the West; McDonald's restaurants are not an uncommon sight in Moscow, Kiev, or Warsaw
o NATO military forces are spread thinner than ever across the globe in the former Yugoslavia, Haiti, and Rwanda
o A national uprising and coup occurred in Czechoslovakia on 2-4 October. Soviet military forces are bogged down in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Bratislava, and Kosice. Limited NATO humanitarian convoys have entered through the Western border, which is mostly controlled by rebel forces
o Rapid WP mobilization has taken place following NATO incursions into Czechoslovakia. Greece, Norway, West Germany, Turkey, and Iceland have all requested reinforcements and have mobilized their armed forces. If tensions keep up, REFORGER will begin at around 0500Z on Friday morning, delivering both British and American troops to Europe and evacuating British, American, and Canadian dependents, tourists, and citizens.

It is now 6 October 1994. You have just arrived in Chad from France to command French military forces (6th RPIMa) under Operation Epervier in the African nation. In the past day, the French military presence in Chad has dramatically increased from a few hundred advisory and security personnel to a force containing small detachments of Jaguars, Mirages, and a few other fancy toys. The French military presence in Chad was sharply decreased in the late 1980s with the apparent end of the Cold War and the end of the Chadian-Libyan War. French forces were further reduced to nearly 200 men by the end of 1991, with most serving in an advisory role to the Chadian Armed Forces. Hawk and crotale batteries were flown back to France. Most bases besides N’Djamena and Abeche were discarded and fell into ruin. You and nearly 1,500 additional French combat and support personnel were flown into N’Djamena using Air France 747s and several Transnall transport aircraft via Eypgt and Morocco to facilitate an operation against the Libyan Army in Chad.

Any suggestions, concerns, and comments are welcome.

About 4 hours in. Talk about operation Shoe-string! [:)]

Just did a para drop on Faya area, hinds did the last of the cleanup about 5 min before the Tpt came in. Lost a Mirage to lack of fuel, she was in the que, broak away when others joined then dropped off about half way home. Another tanker would be useful but just the one makes it very interesting.

Distances are a bugger to manage, as are the different speeds of the AC. Oh and time, just managed to get air supiriority in time for my Frescos to come in ona strafing run, and litteraly got off one shot before dusk shut down thier eyballs! Didn't help that the Recon Mirage was off fueling at the time...

This one looks very doable. Base capture works, as does the SAR

Points:

-TyphoonFr refined the SAR script somewhat and it now inludes the names of the downed and rescueing units. The script is in the thread for IO Fury #4.

-May want to set QTR for those AC that can.

Great littel scenario thanks. (not sure I'll get a chance to finish but will try)

The side description is very detailed and does fire up my interest.

But the non-CoW scenario "CWCAFR 1.1 Scorpions, 1994 SAR.scen" is also only for CoW owner.
Error message after scen description: "This scenario requires the following features: Cargo operations"

Yes, looking back on the scenario, I did include only cargo features. I'm well into my next scenario which is also only CoW compatible, but I might add some cargo using the event editor at a later date.
