Maximum Entrechment Level

Post by terminator »

I do not know if it is really an error but it quite looks like an error for me.

The regular units of infantry have mainly a value of Maximum Entrechment Level equal to 4 (I represented only two in this example) excepted 4 units which have only a value max equal to 3 :

Hi terminator,

well its not an error in the sense of a program bug, but it is one on the content side as they should not differ in that point (except if Western units had shorter shovels than German or Soviet troops [:D]).

Thanks for finding yet another of these small things that so easily escape the bug purges.

Will be fixed in 1.09.

Same problem for the Cavalry, Maximum Entrechment Level = 3 or 4 ?

The cavalry is a mobile unit, so I think that Maximum Entrechment = 3 would be best.

Hi terminator,

There is a site www.niehorster.org that gives an idea of what units and what size each nation had in 1941.

My understanding of "mountain infantry" is infantry specialized in mountain warfare where you have rocks all over the place so it is not easy to dig in.

Developing a list of units is a mission for lifetime. Look at Panzer General II, a game with years of history and many mods. After 20 years of modding they still make improvements. The original German "Jager" unit - mountain rifles - is very different from the mountain rifles you see in latest mods. If I could make new units I would have "mountain infantry" of 1941 as regular infantry plus extra MG/mortars/whatever they need and the only time Germany or USSR has real mountain infantry in 1941-1942 is Caucasus.

By the way, I am still working on my 1941 campaign. Maybe in the next version my mountain rifles will be different?

Cavalry entrenchment - my first guess (that may be wrong) is that cavalry was mostly used for attacks and even if they were "infantry on horsebacks" maybe they would not be as good as line infantry in holding the line. As long as the stats are the same for all nations.
The art of war is simple and esay to understand but fighting a war is hard.

For summary, the Maximum Entrenchement Level should be for :

- Infantry -> 4
- Mountain troops -> 3
- Cavalry -> 3

Hi folks,

the mountain units often had special gear like lighter artillery pieces and stuff needed for climbing. I am not sure they differed much in the ability to dig though.

My understanding is, that trenches were made with wood, barbwire and shovels sometimes adding sandbags ? Heavier trenches with bunkers needed special units to build them.

Cavalry was used as fast moving infantry dismounting before an engagement. There were some charges on horseback, but they were rather the exception.

Based on the information i have i would say mountain and cavalry units could get to the same entrenchment levels as standard infantry.

If you have different information let me know, i am eager to learn.

Should they have Maximum Entrenchement Level = 4 ?

PS: Maximum Entrenchement Level Guards '42 = 3

Hi Ronald,

How will you correct this ?

Giving Maximum Entrechment Level = 4 for all the units or only correct certain errors by keeping differences between certain units ?

Hi terminator,

its will be level 4 for all infantry. Most of the time units will not be able to make use of this, only if the terrain allows it. e.g. on plains you never get past level 2, you need a city or hills to reach the next on and a mountain for level 4.
