Portugal conquest stops the game
Hello.
I'm a newbie on MWIF but played WIF in the 80s with my friends. We just succeeded in lauching Netplay, and started an online game after some solo training.
But we have a problem with Portugal. I tried to declare war on spain and portugal on the first impulse (allied side, Sept 1939). OK with spain, but when i declared war on portugal, the setup menu didn't appear, and i couldn't click on the "next phase" button. So we played the impulse again, and i wait one more impulse to declare war on Portugal.
Now, I've conquered Portugal, we reach the end turn phase, and when we arrive at the "conquest phase", same thing happen : no menu form to click on, and the next phase button is not highlighted.
I tried to play on one monitor (i have 2 monitors + laptop screen), just in case a window would be hidden. I've searched the forum but didn't find an answer. We don't know how far back we have to go to unblock the situation ?

RE: Portugal conquest stops the game
Even though you switched to 1 screen I bet the problem is you are not visualizing the button rather than the button not being there.
Sometimes it kept being out of screen, when I get home, like in 8 hours, I'll try to check it and print a screen if so.

Thank you both for looking at this.
It's maybe a beginner mistake.
I post the orther saved file as soon as possible.

Sh*t. I can not even see the screen. I should have believed Paul that you need both files if you are not Steve. Sorry lad, I'll have to leave it to him…

RE: Portugal conquest stops the game
I have used just one file. When there is a glitch, it also makes sense to use the same file. I have encountered situations (mostly because of using Undo) where the two sides get out of sync. For example, the Undo only took effect on one side and was not communicated to the other side.
Once we determine which side is correct, we will use the same file to restore for Netplay.
When you restore with the same file for both sides, it always starts out in sync.

Yes, used that method yesterday when we got out of synch.

Don't you still have to edit the player names?
No, you don't. If your opponent sends you a zipped netplay gamesave in a game you are participating in, you can simply unzip it and put in into your saved game folder. That's enough to be able to restore the file and continue the game with your opponent.

Hello
We successfully opened the same saved game on both machines and could pass the USSR then Germany production phase. Our saved games seem to have been different.
One remark :
What is difficult with this is that files are saved as : "NP -" Name " - Country.GAM", the country being your own phasing side (CW, USSR, etc for allies - Ger, Jap, etc for axis), so the saved games names are always different for the two players.
Then, we finished production and got the same problem with Portugal Conquest.
I tried with disconnecting all my monitors, but the game is still waiting...

The name of the gamesave is not important. To be able to restore a netplay gamesave, check the next entry number. If it's the same, you can restart a Netplay gamesave with your opponent.
But I doubt that that is the problem you are facing now. There is something wrong with the conquest of Portugal and that's for Steve to look into.

May i remind you of the fact that we had problems when i tried to declare war on Portugal on the first impulse of the first turn.
As this is our first play (kind of testing), i made this very unlikely choice (with the risk of blocking US entry). Maybe is this related with the first turn ?

RE: Portugal conquest stops the game
You should have had problems with declaring war on Portugal on the first impulse of the first turn. The game should not have let you do that, since it isn't legal.
9.3. COMPULSORY DECLARATIONS
France and the Commonwealth must declare war on Germany on their first impulse after Germany has declared war on Poland. No major power may make any other declarations of war in that impulse.
I thought I knew how to play this game....
RE: Portugal conquest stops the game
Hello,
We started a new game, and i didn't attack Portugal on first impulse. I did on the second impulse. But we couldn't even finish the first turn (with many impulses due to nice weather). When i attacked Lisbon, the rebase phase caused errors in the program everytime the ships were entering a new sea zone. And i got the same problem : after "advance after combat", i got "move to next phase" then nothing...
So i have a couple question :
- did anyone on the forum successfully conquered Portugal playing online ?
- did anyone could finish a game playing online (this is not a sarcasm, repect for building this game)?
- apparently, some people have tools to edit saved games. this is maybe a way to manage this kind of situation. playing 6 or 7 hours and being blocked is very frustrating. What about 50 hours ?
Thanks
