Fighters/bombers/cariers values

Hi everyone

something I've never been sure of:
what value is the correct one in air combat?

- A bomber attacks a unit and an intercepting fighter rushes in

What happens? My guess is that the attack value of the bomber is matched with the defense value vs bombers of the attacked unit. Fine... so far.
But the intercepting fighter? Is the fighter attacking the bomber or is it also defending?

And what happens when the attacking bomber gets some cover by an escorting fighter unit? Now there are two fighters... which side is attacking/defending? (could be possible that the attack/defend values of fighters are equal so that wouldn't matter)

For me it becomes even more confusing when it comes to carriers.

A carrier can be upgraded with naval weapons and it can attack with its fighters/bombers or a mix.
What attack value is the correct one?
Can a carrier even attack without using the planes?
If attacking with planes, does only advanced aircraft have any effect on the values or is ground attack weapons also improving your results?

And which value is important for the defending unit? Does it depend on how the carrier attacks? Bombers/Fighters/both?

How is it calculated when a carrier attacks with a mixture of fighters/bombers? To be honest... I always try to have air cover and never used it, even when no air cover was available. Any experiences with that?

Most things might be more or less clear but I was never sure how it works... not exactly.

I'm not exactly sure how the numbers work.
I presume they are fought as separate combats and the enemy air unit being initially targeted (i.e. on the ground/air base) is always the defender.

As a general rule:
Use bombers to attack fighters on the ground (i.e. their air base).
Use fighters to attack bombers on the ground (i.e. their air base).
Put Carrier's in Naval Attack mode to hit ships or ground units.
Toggle the Carrier's mode between Naval Attack and Fighter to see predicted results versus air units on the ground.
If you can't see the predicted results use Fighter vs. Bombers and Naval Attack vs. Fighters (but you will want escorts if you use Naval Attack).
