Scenario for first game

Post by kch »

Hello. Anybody has a recommendation for a scenario for a first play through? Something not too large so I can start learning what looks like an excellent game.

I tried to sort the scenario list by complexity. The first few don't have artillery or air support, so they should be worth trying.

How about some kind of complexity rating for scenarios?

For US vs Russia, Rear Guard looks good for both sides.
For US, it will be a bit challenging, especially if you select wrong ground for your tanks and infantry during defense. Proper killzone setting is the key.
For Russia, it is a bit easier, because of poor weather condition and geometry. US thermals are degraded, and their LOS are limited due to hills. You need to select your approach wisely, flank them and fight them in close range, preferably within 1000m. But one pain in the ass is the AH-64A, they can single-handedly wreck your forces and wreck your plan. Try not to go wet terrain, your tanks and IFVs might immobilized.

I also recommend Nikitin's assault for typical assault / meeting engagement situation, and also Twin Valleys is a good scenario for defense scenario IMO.

For your practice, try very small meeting engagement game like < 5000pt for both side, and play with armor company or platoon only, in wide open map like Fort Irwin region, or open field of Northern Germany. Then try to practice maneuver and cover.
