Dug-in AI Troops

Post by kevinkins »

Will these troops move from their improved positions if the situation warrants it? Or do they stay put for the entire game?

Thanks

In my experience they stay put unless routing.

In that case, it might be good to have the designer select some AI units to be dug in, and some not. The non-dug in troops could serve as a reaction force.

There definitely needs to be possibility of AI counterattacks. Several different ways to implement that, and I'm not sure which is best.

Seems w/o scripting the only way to go is the copious use of objectives to coax the AI. Formations could be held in reserve and released per a countdown timer.

So dug-in troops can move out of their improved positions? I will keep an eye out for that ... [8D]

Yes. Just like almost any formation, they can counterattack when the player captures objectives. Sometimes they do it, sometimes not.

What does it depend on? I remember encountering regular counter-attacks in the early freeware game. But later not. Was surprised to read someone here posting that they still counter-attack because it never happens to me.
