2.9.4 Production screen takes 10+ minutes to load

Post by Gar-Dog »

While working with the same file as the "Vichy Transport loads American Territorial", I noticed <ctrl-P> production screen took over 10 minutes to come up. Quite a bit slower than prior versions...

At end of turn, production was veeery slow..
Germany: 12 minutes for pre-production planning to click "OK".
Italy: 15 minutes for same.
Strangely, all the rest came right up for pre-production like prior versions.

After rebasing all the fleets, it was time for final production.
Germany: 8 minutes wait
Then, the rest were all just a momentary wait.

Finally, when it got to builds, there was another ~1 minute wait. Faster than the boardgame, but hopefully this waiting can get sorted out!

Is anyone else seeing this? I ran into 25 minutes waiting for preliminary production earlier this week.

As always, I need a saved game to reproduce the problem you encountered.

I suppose nobody else is seeing it... It's been so repeatable I didn't think to attach. (I did read the post on repeatability, so thank you for the gentle reminder!)

So I grabbed the last air rebase, set die rolls, and ended it. I waited about 5 minutes to make sure the symptom was exhibiting with this particular savegame (it is). At that time German prelim production still hadn't appeared, so I killed the task rather than wait the 10-25 min.

BTW, at about 5 minutes it seems to throw an exception - window titled "MWIF.exe", big red X icon with the text "The application seems to be frozen." My options are to send bug report, save bug report, show bug report, continue application, restart application, or close application. If I CONTINUE APPLICATION and just wait.... then things eventually come up correctly.

Oh no, Shannon: [&o] !!! You're the one doing all the hard work!

Interesting bug note: The Axis later had a lucky decisive battle against the British convoy escorts, and were able to shut down some outlying convoy pipelines as well as abort the main pipe. When they were partially restored, the painful lag was gone (I was shocked in the best way!). Problem is, next turn when I hit CTRL-P, it was slow again.

[Game-in-progress note: The Allies have had TERRIBLE luck this game... Plus some early planning mistakes that let Russia fall (it would've held even with the bad luck if I'd set up Murmansk properly early). I've never played Global War since WIF4, but this is the most decisive Axis showing I've ever seen by far!]

With Russia down, axis units could potentially trace resources and supply from end of the earth (or at least the "Old World") to the other. That may account for the delay. What is the supply delay like?

Interesting angle. Supply takes between 5-10 seconds. Long, for sure...

It appears the reason for the extra long supply delay is, there are more resources to trade than convoys. Once the Japanese have enough convoys to get all trade from Germany, and the UK has enough to get all trade from the US, the delay is very short. I'm going to run an experiment soon to verify, but I have to go to bed and get off to my daughter's soccer game tomorrow early or I'd do it before posting this.

Will confirm soon.
