making realistic battles, for noobs?

I am one of those people who goes to the panera bread restaurant and is overwhelmed by how many options there are on everything. its the same with armored brigade. I don't know where or how big to set up battles, what compositon my forces should be, whether or not they make sense compared to real OOB's. suggestions?

Start small. Think that the AI will always try to fill out all the space available. Then, there is nothing better than a good book for reference or inspiration.

For compositions: fm 100-2-1, 100-2-2 and 100-2-3 for soviets and fm 100-5 and fm 3-90- (2003) will give a good idea of how nato fights.

MircoMark OOBs are good place to start. Not perfect, but can provide basic guideline. Some tabletop gaming group I know widely accepts MicroMark OOB, and then they modify a bit by bit.

This group also provides some OOB lists, seems similar with MicroMark.

Already discussed in this forum before, but purchase AI force with platoon, not company. And make a good space for AI deploying zone, and make 'dummy' setting maximum, number of dummy and area of dummy.

Those will help AI to be a bit more cunning and realistic.

What about interesting locations? For those who studied or served in Germany at this time, what particular towns, bridges, passes would likely have seen the heaviest fighting?
