Slow save game process

Post by wosung »

Is there any way to speed up the save game process?

I like to save every single turn. And I noticed that this process (opening the save screen and actually saving the game) is really getting slower in midgame. I remember this being the same also in SCWiE.

Would it help if the savegames and the game would be on one HDD partition? I use to have the former on a SSD, the latter on a HDD. Is it possible to change the location of the savegames?

It's my understanding that it is loading or reading all the save files every time you save, so it takes longer the more save files you have [the save files are large as they save the entire game - graphics, scripts and all else]. I also used to save every turn but it took too long, so now I only save after specific points, i.e. AftPol or AftFr.
I agree with you that it would be nice if saving were a bit quicker.

Thank you. That would explain the long saving time.

If you move the save files to another folder specially created for the saves it should help, just keeping the minimum in the game's own save folder.
