bridges in Bulge 44

My son bought the upgrade to OAOW IV, which behaves very wellcompared to III.
When I load Bulge 44 and set advanced game options to New bridge rules, the bridges seem to have no effect.
2nd PZ XX 1/74 Hummels roll right over the Our river, at the blown bridge at Dasburg at 16AM!

There is a German bridging engineers unit on the river at Dasburg in the initial set-up. It sounds like the German units are crossing a pontoon bridge.
