Newbie problem with colony ships

Post by Baron Wombat »

I discovered marshy planet #1, then marshy planet #2, and then a continental planet, in that order. There were 3 colony ships being built (on auto). I want the first one to go to the continental planet, but no dice, it’s gonna go to Marshy Planet #1. Same with the second colony ship-it’s going to Marshy Planet #2. The colony ships are going to the planets in the order they were discovered, and I don’t want that. I took them off auto and tried to give them new orders, but it didn’t work. Then I tried to get colony ship #3 built first, but that didn’t work either. Why can’t I put them on manual and issue orders like every other ship? Am I missing something or is that just the way it is?

Can you not just select the first colony ship when completed and send it to the desired planet?

One off track thing...

I've noticed that if I have the game on pause colony ships will never update the order until I unpause it. When you say you try to change it and it doesn't change...is that with the game paused? If so, did you go back and check after you unpaused?

The best and easiest way is to select a planet from the "expansion planner" and click on build colony ship, or something like that....GP

Sounds like maybe you have colony automation turned on? You can shut that off in Empire Policy

I forgot you could do that from the expansion planner. I never use the feature for mining stations because I have min/maxed designs with and without luxury extractors so the ship often builds the wrong one, so I just direct all construction manually with ctrl-click.

Thanks for reminding me you can send colony ships this way, though.
