Deployment Delay ?

Post by Rand6897 »

Though I have had TOAW4 for better part of a year I am just starting to get to it. I was tinkering with a scenario, adding specific units for the Tirpitz and Bismarck. I was able to create them but ended up with both of them on the board in 1939. For the life of me I can not figure out how to delay their entry until 1941. Do I have to put them in as a reinforcement or event? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thank you for that question. Yes, they have to be reinforcements to enter the game on a specific turn, which you can specify. This is using the part of the editor that I haven't used much and I'd hate to mislead you but I DO think there's a way to specify which units enter on which turn at what spot. I think you have to do your editing using the formation panel but like I say, I'm not sure. Maybe some expert will take the conversation from here and explain better.

Thanks Larry but I figured it out. Here are the steps...I think.

1] I created units by copying and modifying existing naval group
2] I assigned units to an existing formation that other KM units belong to.
3] I deployed it...this is were the hang up began. I couldn't edit the unit to arrive in future turn. I read manual I best I can with the constant starting and stopping to deal with real life distractions. Like trying to sink a 10 foot putt on the 50 yd-line with 2:00 to play in the Super Bowl. Or trying to comprehend why your grandmother has spent the last 20 minutes trying to remember what she had for dinner on July 22, 1966. Tough to focus.
4] Go to edit deployment and right click to select unit. You get a drop down box and low and behold on the right side of the screen there are buttons to change unit status. Missed them a dozen times.
5] Removed the unit.
6] Went to edit force pool, went to formation report, edited units to future turn. Easy as can be.

Good for you. I THOUGHT there was a way. I'll have to use it a few times to learn where it is to do that. Thanks for the reveal.

Close but maybe clearer put:

1] Create Unit.
2] Place Unit on Map.
3] Remove Unit.
4] Hit 'F' and define deployment as seen below:
