Optimal timing to DOW Dutch East Indies - MP

Post by ThunderLizard11 »

What is the optimal month to DOW Dutch East Indies? I'm getting a morale and MPP hit from the US embargo, but if I DOW the US their readiness jumps to total war. Thoughts? This is for MP.

It really depends on the mobilization percentage the US has. I'd wait until you are ready to attack Pearl myself

I try to attack on the same turn. I also try to hit the Philippines and Port Moresby on that same turn. Singapore too if I can manage it but that depends on your Amphib Tech rating as to how much you can do.

How does the oil embargo effect this? Is it better MPP wise to wait until early '42 to DOW or is the oil embargo penalty not make it worth waiting that long?

The oil embargo has two effects. You lose the MPP from the DEI and take a small morale hit every turn until you declare war. Getting the MPP back as soon as you can is good but not if it pushes you to war early. I try to declare war as soon as the pieces are in place for me. This is usually Summer or Fall of 1941. I might delay if US mobilization is really low but if it is in the 70s or 80s I would just go for it. No matter what I would hit Hawaii if I know the US will be in the war next turn to get the surprise effect and sink US battleships which are ahistorically effective even against carriers in the game.

The reason to hit everything if you can is that surprise helps clean up. Also, realize there is an event when you take the DEI for the Dutch to wreck infrastructure and sometimes it takes forever to get the export port working again so you get the income. Same with all the island conquests so do not count on an income boost for a while.
