Best TBS and RTS game franchises of all time?

Post by Mind »

What are your favourite Turn Based Strategy (TBS) and Real Time Strategy (RTS) video game franchises of all time? My Top5:

1.Combat Mission, TBS/RTS ( especially CMx1 )
2.Close Combat, RTS ( especially CC5 which has a lot of mods )
3.Men of War + SHOWW2+FOW, RTS ( especially SHOWW2. Of course not as realistic as first two, but a really fun series )
4.Total War, TBS/RTS ( especially until 2011 and with mods )
5.Strategic Command, TBS ( especially SC Global Conflict gold. Just don't like the oldest )

Sid Meier's Civilization series & derivatives (Colonization, Alpha Centauri) for turn-based games. And Steel Panthers series.
Total Annihilation and Ground Control for RTS.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

UFO: Enemy Unknown for turn-based.

Close Combat or Starcraft for real-time.

Combat Mission for both.
If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?

My favorite game is turn based and is Advanced Tactics Gold. I dont play real time though I enjoyed modified real time with total war

Favorite RTS was the Close Combat series. I don't play it much anymore, though.
Favorite TBS was Advanced Tactics, War in the Pacific/Uncommon valor series and Panzer General/Panzer Corps.

However, these days I haven't been much into war games. Been on steam playing survival/crafting games more for whatever reason.

Fairly any game genre has a strategy element so since my previous question wasn't answered I'd say any game with a strategy element is fair game (pun intended [;)]).

My three favorite RTS are Cities Skyline, Ashes of the Singularity and Command Ops 2. (No Man's Sky is really close)

My three favorite TBS are TOAW, Any Total War game and Civ V.

I would just add Panzer Corps to that list but yeah. That's about all I play too.

RTS - Hearts of Iron 4 (used to be Distant Worlds, but stopped playing that years ago).

TBS - too many great ones. ATG mentioned above is definitely top 5

I tried No Man's Sky but didn't like it a whole lot. Planet Nomads is probably one of my favorite space survival games. Also like Astroneers.

Yeah, if we're talking "RTS" in the traditional sense, Starcraft: Brood War is the uncontested king. It's been a long time since I've had the patience or reflexes/reactions to play any traditional RTS against a competent opponent however...

Easy for me. TBS is the Queen of all wargames, War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition. RTS is Distant Worlds Universe.

Let's see... Bah, just a DLC for original Starcraft. Did play Starcraft, got combat fatigued by half-way through of it, and never got into Broodwar. I still say Total Annihilation & DLC is the best of the traditional sense (as Infierno puts it) RTS made in last millennia.

For RTS I also liked Codename Panzers. It was sort of like Panzer General meets RTS in some ways. Actually one of my favorite games back in the day.
