Mobility: Stick with horses!

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Mobility: Stick with horses!

Post by majpalmer »

For the slow learners like me, I'd like to share this recent observation.

I've stopped buying mobility upgrades for my infantry units when I play as the Axis. The costs are high, as they should be. To upgrade an army costs 75 mpps. Corps cost 45 mpps.

Given the size of the army by the time of Barbarossa, the costs to upgrade the mobility to 1 for the 9 armies and 21 corps would be 1620! Alternately, you could save those production points and buy: 11 Corps, 7 Armies, or even 7 Tank units!

Certainly a luxury for Corps, some Armies maybe. Obviously better as Prod tech ramps up.

You can't buy mobility for every unit. On the other hand, corps with mobility can be nasty, especially on the Eastern Front. They can get behind you and cut you off, or reach a unit you thought was safe. I always upgrade at least a handful, and put them where they can cause the most trouble.

Upgrading an HQ is where it gets dicey for me. 125 points? Ouch. But that extra pip of movement sure can be useful. It can make the difference between your offensive having to pause a turn, or not.. or being able to escape your enemies clutches... or not. I usually upgrade 1 or 2.
Lock up your wife and children now,
It's time to wield the blade..
