Question about the editor (TOE upgrades)

Post by sanderz »

I am looking for some help/advice in using the editor.

In the Locations tab there is a tick box for "show TOE" - am i right in thinking this only effects whether you can see the TOE upgrades in game with the "Show unit TOE" button

i.e. whether "show TOE" in the editor is ticked or not the unit will still upgrade all its devices if they are correctly set to do so in the editor.

Is this correct, or if not whats the best way to set up TOE?

Many thanks

You might have an unit arrive with different devices and different quantities from TOE. That button shows what is the TOE.

TOE's work counter-intuitively in the editor.

The end date for the previous TOE is the date the specified "succession" TOE (specified in the TOE location, not the unit location) becomes available as an upgrade.

This is mixed in with some in game filters that give the player a great deal of control.

If you give a unit a quite unique mix of devices, but connect it to a TOE, that ends at Date X, allowing an upgrade to another TOE, then if the player-in-game never puts it on (X) rest/(Y)upgrade within (Z)range of a command HQ it will never graduate to the next TOE.

On the other hand, the player can hold it where it is (even allowing upgrading of individual devices) as long as XYZ is never satisfied.

Eventually the player can allow XYZ conditions to get, say, a late war upgrade, but doesn't have to.

Simple, huh?

Thanks all for the replies - a lot i need to look at in more detail.

Made me realize how little i know about how TOE and upgrades work. I dug around some more and found this thread http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2291760 from which i will quote a couple of posts.....
To quote a post from Andy Mac (from 2009)
TOE Upgrades require Rest Mode
Device Upgrades require 2x devices and supply (we are changing this in patch 2 to 1x devices)
......and
You can access TOE upgrades by looking at a units TOE on the LCU screen if its yellow at the top that means the TOE changes at some point (not always for the better.....)

To quote a post from BigJ62 (in the same 2009 thread)
The only time an op mode is required (rest) is for TOE upgrades, this is when a units entire TOE is replaced with a new TOE. This has nothing to do with device upgrades.
1. Device upgrades are common to both Witp and AE.
2. TOE upgrades are a new feature of AE.

Also i didn't actually understand how TOEs were even created but see now that they are just another location with 9999 delay that you link to (TOE ID field) and specify the TOE change date (upgrade TOE field).

One final (i hope) thing i am not clear about is what happens when the TOE upgrade date arrives, do all the devices change and then fill out through the replacement process or do you need a stockpile of every new device before the TOE upgrade happens?

Many thanks
