Youtube - Drachinifel on Naval History
I would like to recommend the many, many excellent videos produced by Drachinifel.
Being British, he tends to be something of an apologist for the Royal Navy, and to subtlety nitpick other navies. Or am I just taking an American view of events? I know Warspite will have an opinion.

I wholeheartedly agree, Drachinifel is an excellent source of Naval history...mainly Victorian and more modern...but sometimes dips into the Wooden Walls of England. I also agree that he does have a very slight favor for those things Royal Navy..But he's a Brit, can't blame him. A+ content, and lots of it. Be warned it is not eye candy (does find neat pics sometimes) as it is mostly Q/A from his patreons and short lecture.
Kind Regards,

I don't have an opinion because I've never heard of the guy. But I would be interested to know why you feel he is an apologist and in what way he nitpicks about others. Do you have any specific examples I can watch?

I'm not saying he's not good, just that he takes a very British view.

Well I just watched the PoW video and it's interesting enough as an overview of her career. I'm not really sure what the issue is in terms of him being an RN apologist though (albeit based on that one video).

This time period is not my specialist subject. Good one in what way? In support of what Zorch was suggesting or a good video?

RE: Youtube - Drachinifel on Naval History
The Constitution and her class were superior in design and build to other ships of the same type, using superior materials and heavier guns. In fact, the Constitution actually had the firepower of an old 4th class ship of the line but it did not have the strength of hull of a ship of the line. The video does get into this as well as a few of the actions that she fought in. It also details some of the other actions of the others of her class and what happened to the Chesapeake which did not follow the designs nor have the same materials.
The Chesapeake did not use the live oak, rather pine. The pine splintered causing many extra casualties. It went to sea to a challenge when the Constitution was laid up and was defeated by a British frigate. The Chesapeake had a green crew while the British crew was a crack crew. The British Captain knew his crew and vessel while the American Captain was a blowhard and his crew had not sailed before.

Try the Bismarck video. [:D]

No not at all - as my posts on these forums will confirm. I don't read history so someone can tell me their country never did anything wrong and were always the best and, and...... [>:]
I didn't see a great deal wrong about that video on the PoW and no one has said what the guy has done that is so 'wrong'.
I'll look at the Bismarck one you've suggested.

But I genuinely don't understand. I've just watched the Bismarck video. It refers to the Iowas vs the Bismarck (and mentions the South Dakota and North Carolina classes) - all of which are compared favourably to the Bismarck (the Iowas particularly so) so I don't know what you stating you are an 'American chauvinist' means here. I think I'm missing something.
Equally, he refers to the German excellent gunnery destroying the Hood and seeing off the PoW in short order. He criticises the Bismarck design in ways that have become standard (although doesn't mention the lack of DP guns) and not controversial.
Please let me know what I'm missing because I didn't see in the 7 minute overview where the bias toward the RN was - and certainly didn't see why an American would have an issue with regard to the representation of 'their' ships.
