Blocked at Reserve Call Out phase (SOLVED)

Post by lecrop »

In my solitaire Barbarossa game I'm unable to continue because the setup try does not appear in the Call Out Reserves Russian phase. I attach the .gam file, any help will be appreciated.

Your saved game restores with the USSR to set up its units.

I did all that. Then I set up the Germans. The next couple of phases ran as usual: Initiative and Weather. Both Axis major powers declared war on the USSR - automatic.

And then the program asked about the USSR setting up its reserves. All the reserve units were selected, so when I closed that form the Set Up Tray for the USSR Reserves appeared.

Possibly, you deselected all the USSR Reserve units - which you could do if you wanted to. When none is selected, then the set up tray does not appear.

First of all thank you very much for your help [:)]

I saved the game in the Call Out Reserves Russian phase, after selecting all the units but prior the deployment on map, with the setup tray on screen.

When I load the saved game, everything is fine, the German and Russian units are deployed, and it is the phase of deploying the reserves, but the setup tray has disappeared and I can't recover it in any way. I put here an screenshot:

I have done some other tests, without success. I'm running MWIF.exe without administrator rights, and I have tried to do it with administrator rights and then when loading the saved game it opens in the Russian setup phase prior to deployment, as you comment in your post.

I also want to add that I don't have a double monitor or anything similar that could cause a problem according to some old posts I have read in the forum.

Again, thank you very much for your help.

Try restoring you screen layout, the moment the set up screen is missing. This problem sometimes appears on my machine too. Steve hasn't got a clue what's causing it, since he can't recreate the problem.

I think it has to do something with the fact that we are not based in English speaking parts of the world and that computer settings somewhere tend to mess this up.

Following your advice, I have tried changing the system language to English, and also restoring the game screen layout, without success.

I'll restart the game from the beginning, and try to save the game more often and when each phase ends, not in the middle of them. From now I want to dedicate all my game's time to MWIF, and the only thing that scares me is that I may have this kind of problem when I am in the middle of some scenario like Global War, or a pbem game for example.

You've researched the problem so I hestiate to ask, but have you checked if the tray is "hiding" behind the main map?

It's the first thing I checked, and it's not hidden.

Of course I appreciate your question, any suggestion is welcomed [:)]

Did you try simply continuing on after selecting all the USSR units in the Reserve Form?

Your screen shot has white sections in the Main form so I cannot see the phase/subphase of the game. If you run the cursor over those sections, the program usually refreshes the form, thereby displaying the missing information.

Based on the color of the Detailed Map border, it appears the program expects the USSR to do something - like click on the end-of- phase button.

Yes, I could continue selecting all Russian troops for deployment, but once selected, the deployment tray did not appear. If I click on the end-of-phase button, the program advance to the next phase but of course without deploying any of the reserve units.

No form refreshing until next phase

If I click on the end-of-phase button, then the program go to the next phase without problems.

I have to say that I started the scenario from scratch again, and I am in the third turn with no more problems, only being careful not to save the game when the setup tray is on the screen.

SOLVED

After many attempts, tests and fiddling, it turns out that the problem was on my side (OS): apparently, MWiF is not very compatible with windows 10 Advanced Scale Settings.

Thank you very much for your patience and help [&o]

Right Click your desktop and select Display settings. You will see an option on that page for Advanced Scaling Settings.

Brian.

I am very glad this is no longer a problem for you.

This is the first time I have heard about Advanced Scaling Settings. I write code to use only the most bland features of the operating system. "Special features" always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and quiver.

Many times OS's evolution complicates its use rather than making it easier. In fact, I had not set that configuration, it came by default on my computer. I have solved my problem by dedicating a lot of time and with enough luck, but it does not surprise me that many people do not find a solution to their problems and end up unfairly blaming many of them on the software, in this case on MWiF.

Now I can dedicate the rest of my life to study the MWiF Optional Rules [:D]
