AAR: In-game and End-game Data Collection

Post by bcgames »

I would like to expand the after action review capability when we get to Monty's Front. The purpose of these AAR products is to help the players understand what is happening during gameplay--and what happened when gameplay is done. Hopefully, access to this info will enhance game play.

Currently we show victory points awarded, fuel and ammo on-hand/lost to enemy interdiction over time. Some folks don't care about this info. We'd like to hear from those who do. What other statistics would you like to see during and/or following game play?

Hi,

This suggestion isn't really AAR (well kinda sorta) driven but I think a nice piece of chrome would be to modify the organizational hierarchy display to allow players to select one of units and drill down to another layer of info such as personnel and equipment types, numbers, etc. at any point in the game. The drilled down unit data should be dynamic and be updated as required for every unit selected. Friendly forces only of course.

Rob.

So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)
Hmmmm... big place ain't it??

You bring up a good point. In the US Army, the AAR is ALWAYS used after an action. The action in our case is the Game Turn. So let's call this more useful game-oriented phenomenon--the After Turn Review (ATR). The ATR is what I am most interested in obtaining feedback. AAR comments (as redefined) are welcome as well. Speak your truth!

Let me translate what I think you said into what it would look like graphically...more to follow...

Some ideas for End Game AAR:

* Compare use of air assets by side over time
* Compare use of ground assets by side over time
* Compare use of naval/riverine assets by side over time
* Compare average ground force readiness by side over time
* Compare average air asset readiness by side over time
* Compare average ground asset readiness by side over time
* Compare average naval/riverine asset readiness by side over time

What data helps a player better understand how/why/when they won or lost a scenario?

Dunno.

It's no big deal recording these stats, so perhaps the more the merrior? All it needs is a nice interface so the stats available are not overpowering!

Decisive Campaigns Barbarossa has the best AAR features out there.

I want as much as possible, be able to view a units combat history, who it fought, when and where plus known casualties taken and caused in combat with each action.

It all creates narrative and immersion and will help loads in actual published AARs. Also add chrome, like medals awarded and if general day issued praised or reprimand etc. Nothing wrong with chrome.

Can you describe/illustrate what you mean by this statement? You've obviously done the work in making this assessment. Point me and I'll take a look.

I too want as much data as possible that reveals some clue(s) as to how I won or lost a scenario so I can play it better next time.

Yep, published AARs with lots of good data is a good way for other players to improve their gameplay.
