Scen 14 Downfall - Update (WIP)

This is still WIP but change list so far

1. Change autoconvoy start location to be Singapore and PH - Done
3. US airframe pools - Done
4. US Pilot pools and xp levels - Done
5. Remove Dutch Sqns and replaced with 5 new ones - Done
6. Check US Divs for.old devices - Done all units start upgraded
7. Review Aus Armoured Bde - Done
8. Add Shinyo Suicide boats for Japan as MTBs - Done
9. Check US CVs and move those damaged At Okinawa to west coast with some damage - Done
10. Increase prep levels for allied forces to enable quicker invasions - Done
11. Re wrote Allied AI - Done
12. Add score damage for VPs - Done
13. Extend map south to Manus and move BPF start point to that location - Done
14 Check USN Air Groups I think I got them all resized
15 Added Leyte FDR and Coral Sea as reinforcement ships
16 Added karel Doorman as reinforcement
17. Added more room to north basically China and Korea still under Japanese control due to the rising tension in Germany Russia took North Manchuria and Shikuka but has left Korea/ China and Toyohara under Imperial control - some supplies may be making there way to those three sites - gives the rumpJapanese merchant marine something to do - HI start low on fuel and supplies after Okinawa campaign getting those supplies to HI across Sea of japan and Yellow sea is important - also gives US subs a role
18. Sorting out some obsolete devices for Japan - DONE

Still to do
a. Major play test as japan - in progress
b. Sort out USN carrier resizing bug for US AI - done but means Essex class have 150 capacity - PLAYERS DONT RESIZE OR OVERLOAD CARRIERS - NEEDS A HOUSE RULE NOT TO ABUSE PLEASE
c. Major Allied play test

v3 Corrected Ponape HQ assignment

Please note I cannot as yet get the allied AI to work and I am not sure I ever will be able to get it working effectively so unfortunately this is going to be PBEM or v Japanese AI only scenario for now

Have you given any thought to adding the Curtiss SC-1/2 to the game?

Have you done anything about the command structure of 14th Army, it is perm restricted so any LCU allocated to it must pay PP to change to an active command, usually SEAC. Likewise for (I think) III US Corps whose troops must change to another Corps HQ

That was a deliberate design decision - its supposed to be a US Centric scenario as Mac didn't want Indian troops so if you need to use them its at a cost

I will take another look a bit later on

Any update on when this might be available? I stopped playing the current Downfall as this looked to be developing a much better scenario.

Same here. You're doing such a nice work on upgrading that it MUST be worth waiting for the update. Everything stopped for me too. (in fact, no pressure... I have so many other things to do before starting a new scenario that this delay helps me to NOT procrastinate too much [;)] ...)

Can you also ensure that you have the right commanders in the right spots. In earlier versions, I saw commanders that were either dead or had been disgraced and forced to resign due to failure.

Since posting, I've come across someone else who had a problem in playing the Downfall scenario., against the AI IIRC it was identified in the Tech sub forum about 6 years ago. That makes for 3 known Downfall plays.[:)]

I will de-lurk to say both that I played the Downfall scenario at length and am looking forward to the update. I also experienced oddities with air group resizing in the middle of the game.

Does Japan get emergency reinforcements when the Allies finally land in the remaining Home Islands? Hundreds of adolescent girl battalions with bamboo spears? Old folks carrying anti-tank mines and crude Arisaka rifles? Mobilised kempetai units?

They get the normal 10 Divs of Depot Troops and most support units are now shifting support troops into makeshift entries

Support Squads are lower in most support units but have been replaced by IJAAF Support Inf,
Also mst Divs get attached Militia Squads

I play Downfall a bit, its great using those late war units. I probably play as Allied 10-1 compared to the japanese side, and probably dont play through as long for the japanese.

Thanks guys I am playing as Japan right now but need a playtester on the allied side to try a few months to see how it goes and if I have missed anything so I am going to post the latest beta of the scenario in this thread on the 1st post of the thread if anyone has some time and can play a coulpe of months as allies it would help a lot especially if you can let me have any observations
