1.12.02 supply/isolation issue

Post by xalinas2 »

Hi,

I am currently playing a server game and we just switched from the latest 1.11.x to 1.12.02.

When opening my turn, I was informed that one of my HQs is isolated and I managed to find it in the snow zone just across the Kerch. However, as you can see from the screenshot, the railhead is very close so I wouldnt expect the HQ to be isolated. Interestingly, the attached IDs are not isolated but are in beachhead supply.

Any idea what went wrong?

Is Kerch actually repaired as a port to allow supply? if not then I count 8 hexes from the railhead to the HQ accross a major waterway so would not say close. What is the supply distance to it or to say the hex directly to the east of kerch? If the HQ is isolated then the IDs certainly will be as well by land, so being next to the sea will mean beachead supply is their best supply state.

I know supply is bad in the Kuban peninsula unless you have a port there. I have not traced the exact mechanics of why the land route is so bad. The Kerch straits does allow unit movement so assume it allows supply - does it? Does it in all weathers? (edit Morvael answered below!)

Kerch Strait is treated as impassable to supply (like normal body of water), despite counting as major river for the purposes of unit movement. You are dependent on sea supply once on the other side.

Thanks Morvael, it makes sense. I was wondering about that the other day.

But does the fact that it counts as a major river mean that it becomes frozen when ice level is more then 4? Seems like the coasts of the black sea may freeze, but not that much and not for long, would that permit a ice bridge like a normal major river?

Currently there is no difference based on ice level, so it's always impassable.

Thanks, but I mean for the Strait of Kerch?

Many thanks for the clarification, strange that I never noted before!
Actually, I used to own the Temryuk port until a few turns before but lost it during January.

However, one more question: I now moved my HQ back over the strait and hence it is not isolated anymore. Will it still supply my units on the other side next turn?
