Can we ensure that players get to play both sides twice overall.

So next round if the top two players have both been Commonwealth twice they will not be eligible to play each other but instead they will both be Axis and play someone down the list who is eligible to play Commonwealth.

Am happy to work with you on the pairings if you like.

Yes, the absolute goal is that

1) no player plays the same person more than twice, and
2) no player has the same color pieces more than twice in a row ...

so anyone who plays Round 2 w/ the same color as they had in Round 1,
will not have that color again in Round 3.

As we go along, I think it will work out that everyone has red twice, and everyone has blue twice. Going to definitely work toward that.

When I was playing Chess way back when, I remember a 5 round Swiss (I think it was the Southwest Open circa 1985/1986), about 70 or so in my section, they used a "top seed draws straw for color" in every round I think, and it was possible (but unlikely) to have White the whole tournament.

Those poor TDs, there were about a thousand or more players in about 6 sections w/ five TDs and one Arbiter for the GM / Invitational, an Open section for people who were vying for another point toward International Master or GM, down to the lowly Class D and "unrated" section for the new to Chess. Those poor TDs, if I recall, they did not have computers, they wrote it all out longhand on giant cardboard posters (the tournament grid, that is.)

It was a lot of fun, I scored 2 out of 5 I think, and made a Class B rating.

One more step on the ladder! Next is Class A, then Expert I think. On my bucket list: play in the World Open. Not sure if they still have that or not. But if so, will go and play if I can.

ANYWAY, yes, if we were live and it were possible, we could draw straws for color. The "choice of color" thought was the best I could think up, and it has grounding in the Dutch FIDE pairing rules system.

I'm sure it will all work out for the best :)

Ok, well, final note: I was thinking about how best to handle this BYE for pikeyjon. Idea: I think it might be wise to "offer" the odd bye for round 2 to pikeyjon instead of setting it into stone right now. Perhaps another player might want to claim the 3/4 point bye for Round 2, if we have to have a bye.

Unless some brave soul wishes to join, at least for Round 2, to play pikey. He is a reliable and tough opponent, as I have learned from our go at CfNA (the big one -- currently on turn 5, waiting for "O'Connor's Raid" to commence.)

Thanks for the inspiration and helps with pairings! Join to play pikey in Round 2 if you can.

I think Round 2 s/b scheduled as officially starting Nov. 1 (at which time I will close entries for Round 2) but you can start your games before that if ready. I'll put a note on the calendar to shoot for January 1, 2020 as a target date for Round 3 pairings.

Next issue, I will publish the finalized pairings for Round 2, and any updated scores from Round 1. Will include a recipe suggestion for a Thanksgiving dinner a la 1941/1942.

Good luck to all! Schuss! (with an umlaut)! Thanks!

Yes, we have christened it ...
for purely medicinal purposes ...

"Bubba Bubble": great for bursitis.
I'm like, "Knee? What knee?"

pairing corrected :)

Carry on :)

Try "urkle"
Its good for everything.
Accept maybe thinking.
But that's just a debunked theory left over from sixty years of drug war propaganda.

Slight corrections / updates:

mdanz (DAK) v. cheltham (Commonwealth)

hellen offers draw to larry
(pikey has deferred)

sandy is to offer challenge to tyronec
[I believe sandy prefers PBEM plus, on the server]
will check, tyronec: is PBEM plus on the server OK?
will send pword if ok

Send him my e-mail.

I used to play Chess at school, think I played for about 5 years in the schools league. There was always a coin toss as to who got white, then it would be Board 1 White, 2 Black, 3 White and so on. That business of giving seeded players the edge is nuts, sport is about an even playing field for all. Don't work like that much elsewhere in life.

Played Bridge in a big Swiss event at the Commonwealth games, there were about 150 pairs and 8 rounds in the day. We got to the last round and by some fluke we were playing on table 2 (we should have been somewhere around 50). Anyway the top two pairs were on table 1, all professionals, and at the end they were having a 'debate' on some fine point of the rules and they overran the time allowed to play their set of boards. The umpires were too intimidated to take control and just let them get away with it instead of the statuary time fine.

I tried to learn Bridge.

Hard game. Tried some on line, they are brutal.

Not cut out much for Bridge or Cards here....

BUT, I do have an ongoing "World Championship" series of Checkers game w/ a Bud ...

Kind of a tradition, that we play a game over the Holidays. We've been playing that since long time.

I think I'm down 10 to 14 in that right now ....

We'll probably play another over these next Holidays.

Life is good!

I'm not sure cheltham is still playing. There's no trace of him. He's not in the address book at all. No posts. No nothing. He's a ghost that cannot have existed at all unless he did exist and then completely deleted himself..
or
cheltham is an incorrect spelling.
Or something else..
I don't have an email or anything to initiate contact.
