How do I get Canadian escorts on convoy escort duty?

How to use Canadian convoys?

I thought it would be a good idea to build Canadian escorts from the start. I somehow assumed they would be just added to the Uk's unassigned escorts. But apparently this isn't the case. Reports and statistics states "Canada's Escorts added to availiblity pool." In the Manual I found virtually nothing about "Canada" or "availability pool".

Plus, it seems to be impossible to have convoys starting in Canada. Canada only seems to be a convoy destination.

Click on Canada's flag on the convoy screen. I assume their stuff will be listed there when their flag is selected once stuff is built, otherwise makes no sense to let us build escorts and convoys.

In my game when I sent oil to Canada, I get a message each turn that Canada lacked Merchants so UK merchants are used. So I ordered some to be built. Haven't arrived yet so hopefully it'll work.

I -think- (not sure) if UK lend lease production points to Canada, Canada convoys may be used too.

Jim: Canada's flag on the convoy screen only shows up as a destination ("to Canada"). But apparently convoy escorts are only provided by the country from which the convoys start from. Apparently, in Oct. 1940 there are only 4 starting nations for convoys: UK, France, USA, SU. Convoys may end in 5 nations (even if only 4 of them are displayed at a time, depending on the convoy starting nation): UK, France, USA, SU and Canada.

Cohen: Lend leasing UK production points to Canada by establishing a convoy route from the UK doesn't change the number of unassigned escorts - unassigned UK escorts, b/c as it is now, Canada doesn't show up as starting point of a Convoy route, thus there seems to be no way to get access to unassigned Canadian escorts.

I'll fix that to make minor escorts that are allied appear in the Major controller's pool. Thanks for spotting it.

Thanks for fixing this, but it ended up forcing me to use Canadian production to build an army instead, and I find that maybe this is a better use of Canadian production anyways. It's more cost effective to let the UK handle escort construction imo. You can crank out a Canadian infantry division once every 3 turns, and this is pretty nice, you can help defend the UK with them, and this frees up UK land forces for duty elsewhere, or makes the UK a harder target for a sea lion.
