Is this a graphic intensive game?

Post by Radagy »

Hi, as I play, I see my graphic card's temperature and GPU clock ramping up even if graphic detail is set to simple (and the graphic card's fan is accordingly noisy).
This is not a 3D intensive first-person shooter, so I wonder what's going on.
Is something going wrong or the game is supposed to run like this?

Radagy, I don't think so per se. I am running an iMac 27 inch, I upgraded it to 40GB of RAM and it has 1TB SSD. I am using VMWare to run Windows 10 Pro, and the game runs just splendid on my end with my specs.

YMMV of course.

As I open the game GPU usage jumps from 2 to 97%
There is something going wrong here [&:]

yes, more likely a driver related issue, or something else in the background not working well with the game

try my old guide and download the latest version of drivers only, not all the useless junk Nvidia wishes everyone to install, when 99% of users don't use it

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4491486

here's the latest for your card, if you use my link above on how to install it correctly, see if that makes it any better

Code: Select all

https://www.nvidia.it/Download/driverResults.aspx/153276/it

mines is a 5 years old card in a old test pc, never goes above 30%, apart from an odd spike, they all do that, just means data is being sent to the card so not to worry about, it's how it is for 99% of the time apart from that spike or spikes etc

look at task manager and take a screenshot without the game running and have it in the background for 20 mins or so and see how it is then, then you can also compare how low your system is per working normally with only windows running and some background apps, if this is high, then something in your start up is hogging your resources and is resource hungry, normally this is a poor AV or firewall type program and a 3rd party apps or program, as the default windows one are very low end, like mine shows with the default AV and firewall and steam running in the background and only the game, i still have a low resource system in use overall

I purposely made it not graphically intensive so players can move around on the screen fast.

At last, I found what's going on, but the solution is counterintuitive.
It all comes from the opening screen.
If I choose "Fastest" the GPU usage skyrockets at 97%
If I choose "Fantastic" the GPU sits at 14%
I thought It should be exactly the opposite, but that is what is all about

Simple doesn't work for me (watch the pic).
I also tried Good and Beautiful: GPU use is a little higher than Fantastic but ok.
Fantastic is the best choice.

Fastest is most demanding on my GPU (you can see it in one of the previous posts).

I agree.
That’s about Unity I guess.
Is there something I can do to give you more useful infos?

Maybe I have a part of the solution.
I first let the game at default quality, and noticed too an increase of temperature. After that I put it at Fantastic to try : way better.

It seems that in "Fastest" (or "Simplest", I don't remember which one it was), the FPS aren't capped (= no V-sync), so my game was trying to go "as fast" as possible, reaching 150-160 FPS, asking as much resources as possible.
In "Fantastic" setting, FPS seems capped at 60 (so I guess V-sync is on) and so, my computer isn't heating.

Maybe it's the explanation (but I'm not a specialist ;)).
And if "Fantastic" setting wouldn't have capped the FPS, I was planing to do it manually through my nvidia config panel.
(just in case it could help, I use FRAPS to see the FPS)

Edit : I just tried "Fastest" and "Simple", both seems to have uncapped FPS.
"Beautiful" seems to have capped FPS.

Be sure to blow out the GPU fan. They can get dirty. Don't know if that helps
