So I have a few questions

Post by Gratch1111 »

1/ How to fire on map artilleri? I can lay down the fire area but then what?
2/ I can unmount infantry but how do I mount them again?
3/ How do I get helicopters on the map, it only says waiting?
4/ What is the purpose of the special HQ unit, isnt there a Company commander tank that is a HQ unit within the tank company?
5/ How do I move an on map artilleri like a mortar, they have no trucks or other?

River crossing with tanks, isnt it a bit unrealistic? Why are there no bridge construction units.

This was one of my very first question for this game. Regarding river crossing, bridge destruction and bridge creation by pontoon bridge or AVLB is not modeled in this game because AI cannot use those features properly. This game consider AI-player balance very seriously.

About artillery, you could try yourself from simple game. Purchase artillery, and set target, ammunition type and etc in artillery support box. You need to set TRP on the map for faster artillery arrival.

Infantry can embark again with "load" command. In this game, infantry squad can embark and disembark only from its dedicated vehicle. Infantry cannot embark any empty vehicles.

You can purchase helicopter, and you need to set 2 BPs and 2 TRPs for each helicopter squad. You can call them from air support box.

In this game, platoon and company is more like a conceptual thing for game's convenience, not real platoon and company. It doesn't have tree-like OOB, and platoon or company doesn't have functional "HQ". They have HQ but they do not act as real HQ. So you need to purchase HQ separately. I usually purchase one HQ per one company.

All tube artillery in this game is offmap units, you cannot directly control. But you can purchase and control mortars and smaller SP artillery units in support tab.

Some things, like some engineering stuff, have been left out for now as the AI is not able to use these features effectively. The reason behind this, from what I have read, is adding those features would then give the Human player an unfair advantage over the AI.

Indeed, with dynamic AI it is very hard to code realistic bridging operations. That is why most (or even probably all) games with such feature rely on scripted AI where scenario designer can pre-program a set of specific actions.

Our policy is to implement equipment and features only when both human and AI can benefit from them.

So even if its on map mortars they are still included in the off map artilleri total? So they are controlled using the normal artilleri?
Ok about HQ unit but is there any way to connect it to the company so I dont have to keep tabs on it separatly?
I have set up the points for helis but they are still only waiting

In-map mortars or SP guns can be used without artillery control box, you can fire those with right click option.

No, there is no way to separate companies to platoon or merge platoons to company in this game. But it would be great if we have such option.

You need to call them from air support box, and you need to wait for some time.

I don't think we will implement on-map artillery pieces as part of the off-map artillery. Originally on-map tubes were only mortars, then we implemented 105mm-122mm pieces (the requisite is 10-15km range) on request for greater variety, but they in theory work outside the artillery command network: sort of as a detached section for direct support.

However, that can be done with scripting. We have already made some first experimental tests, but it will take time to be fully developed.

Greatly cheered up.
