Manually ending Hostilities?

Post by Eboreg »

I recently played a scenario where I had to operate against North Korea while trying not to provoke any Soviet forces in the area (although the scenario doesn't penalize you for such provocations) when such a provocation did happen and thanks to how the various missions were set up, led to a situation where I was attacking and sinking all Soviet forces in the region. There are ways to manually start hostilities between the player side and any neutral/unfriendly computer side but as far as I can tell, there is no way to manually end them. Can anyone enlighten me on a simple way to stop hostilities toward a specific side?

Basically:
SOVIET unit fires on US NAVY unit

US NAVY side declares SOVIET side "hostile"

US NAVY controlled by player who doesn't want to sink any more SOVIET vessels

SOVIET vessels are present in a US NAVY ASuW and ASW Patrol as well as NORTH KOREA vessels that the player does want to take out

Can US NAVY player force his units to only automatically fire on NORTH KOREA units in the patrol zone?

I think you can manually designate individual units as other than hostile. I don't recall the hotkeys (pressing H will designate has hostile, for example), but if you right-click on the hostile unit, your menu will include the choices.

Just keep in mind that, even though you will not fire on them, they are probably still hostile to you! When they shoot again, they will likely be designated hostile again automatically.

If the Soviets fired on you first, you probably cannot talk them out of it for the duration of the scenario.
