Call tactical air offensive?

Post by VonWulfen »

Hello all.
I don't seem to be able to find this toggle button covered in the manual. How does this work?

Go to am HQ.

In the unit panel (upper left corner) there is a row of 3 buttons in the upper right corner. It is the left one of these button. It looks like a bomb.

Hovering over any button will tell you what it is.

Call Airstrike calls all planes to hit all enemy within the command range of the HQ. So if you put the HQ in South Hampton in May of 1944 and hit the button all planes that can reach all enemies within a 5 hex command radius will be hit once with planes. Planes have to be in support mode.

Is there any difference than to do so manually?
I mean, instead of doing X click one lets the AI pick the targets and bomb at random all around. So as it is now the function seems quite redundant unless there is a gimmick that the airplanes are more efficient that way than to direct them precisely as you want them.

No difference. It is just there for cool effects and ease of use.

I guess I still don’t understand why anyone would use this. Does it hit ALL enemies, or just random ones?

As long as you don't get to decide what planes will hit what unit, no serious player in his right mind would ever use this HQ function, I'm afraid.
I mean, if you want to get a foothold on the continent in 44, you need to concentrate your air assets on certain units, not spread them out - this is quite obvious, no?

Call Air Offensive is just for convenience so you don't have to manipulate 30 air counters.

I think it's kind of cool. Like delegating to an AI general. Can we get and air force generals for this besides Kesselring?
