Mad Russian Back in the House...SS Update

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Mad Russian Back in the House...SS Update

Post by Mad Russian »

I've been gone for awhile, busy with a couple of other projects I have in the works, as the coding and testing for Southern Storm was done.

Now that it's time to start to apply all the Southern Storm specific changes to the scenarios it is time for me to get active with the game series again.

What does all that mean to you? Well.... you can't release a computer game without scenarios so... there you go.

Good Hunting.

Like many others I have my credit card to hand to buy SS on it's release.
Questions
Will British Forces feature in SS scenario's, I ask as the current OB for British Units has some minor errors.
1.2inch mortars should not be grouped together as a quasi artillery unit, they should be spread amongst the fighting platoons, as they were primarily used for smoke and illumination purposes.(permit the unit to have a smoke abilty (like tanks equipped with smoke dischargers )
2. Milan equipped AT platoons - again the MILAN posts should be spread amongst the fighting platoons- AT platoon existed on paper for administration, training, personnel and equipment purposes.(A colleague who served with an Infantry regiment in the 1980's BAOR , told me it was the Battalion Commanders discretion how the Milan posts were distributed , as it was his discretion where the SF equipped MG's were deployed )
When in screen mode the preferred standoff distance should not exceed the primary weapon range. (eg RHINO scenario MILAN max range 2000m, standoff range 3000m )
3. Tank Squadrons - the squadron commanders platoon should not have a Ferret or similar vehicle attached - yes such a vehicle did exist as the squadron commanders vehicle but it was there to get him to/from Regiment HQ for briefing and around his squadron when in fixed position, when the Squadron expected to be engaged the vehicle would be back back at Regiment HQ. Also TAnk Squadron commanders standoff distance should be the same as that of the rest of the squadron = 3hexes , Squadron commanders are up at he sharp end not skulking in the rear at 9 hexes .

The British data will be there and I think there are a few scenarios, but I will have to defer to Steve and William on that. I can look at cleaning up the OOB info.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

The British sector (in NORTHAG) is not close to Southern Storm map locations (primarily CENTAG). But only Steve knows how World War III plays out.

And if the British are included why not also the Dutch and the Belgians.

Yes, you are right. But the Eifel - Frankfurt-am-Main not. This is the North-West corner of the CENTAG area.

The Dutch has in the 70ties trained in the Eifel.

I think on the following scenario.

As I am the Warsaw Pact Commander. I send a thrust to North-Netherlands. Against Central German holding attacks. And a thrust in South-Germany. If my troops had reach the Rhine in the South . I send most armies of the south in a thrust through Eifel/Ardennes against Antwerpen and so to encircle the NATO armies in Netherlands/Germany.

Jo, the simple answer is we have the original four nations from Red Storm updated and packaging with the new four in Southern Storm. The planned Northern Storm expansion will add what you are asking in terms of forces plus the Danish and Polish forces. [8D]
