Campaign Series VIETNAM: General Update.

Campaign Series VIETNAM: General Update.

Alas, we didn't hit the planned 2019 release. Sorry, folks.

But, there's good reason! We're building the best Vietnam game to be had at this scale, and it takes time to get it right.

What's the current status? Something like this:
Core Engine Coding: 95% Complete
CSEE Core Coding: 90% Complete
3D Map Graphics: 75% Complete
2D Map Graphics: 98% Complete
Unit Graphics: 98% Complete
Scenarios : 70%: With about 125 scenarios currently built, there are still about 50 scenarios to design, from 1968-1975 (1979 if we include the China vs Vietnam adventure).
Scenario Scripting: 15%. Each scenario needs some form of CSEE coding, this is one of the most time consuming things as it is really brand new, especially in the context of Vietnam. There are hundreds of new functions that really make this game something extraordinary. The CSEE is the core of what the Campaign Series game experience will be like going int o the future, so it is essential that we get it right with Vietnam. That being said, it is extremely complex and requires thousands of hours (literally) of play testing and rewriting and generally adding new functions to get it right.
Manual: 0% Complete
Video Tutorials: 0% Complete

We're getting there, but it takes time and we are grateful for your patience.

Lots and lots of excellent work is being done on this. Thanks for reinventing something that needed it.

Simply put: Without a robust (and bug-free) CSEE, there is no Vietnam game.

The legacy game engine was, by itself, quite incapable of modeling the unconventional, guerilla war that was "the" Vietnam War. Or I should say, all of the many Indo-China wars that the game simulates from the late 1940s through the late 1970s.

Adding to that: The CSEE (Campaign Series Event Engine), especially its SAI (Scripted AI) component, is labor intensive, yes; but even more so, it is time consuming. Many, many hours of hands-off auto-testing and manual playtesting and critically observing the results. In the process, finding bugs (scripting, game engine), yes, but also discovering new challenges and better ways to do things. So much time, it all adds up.

Looking goods, Sadly I got a new laptop for an early Christmas Gift and JTCS wont Run but CSME does thank God, so the engine live on my PC, I guess JT just too old. But all aside, good progress, looking forward for 2020, bring out a polished product, don't rush it, please bring something good, well worth the brand and honor of the men who fought in Vietnam.

After install I go run and when I click on the exe file nothing happens I wait a good 10-15 sec between trys but still it doesn't run when you try to run the game from the exe file either from the file in the folder for from the main menu.

Hey Josh,

Good to know you!

The C++ redistributables 2008 are important in running the old JTCS on Win10. I'm a veteran in this game and when my rig crashed in June 2019, I was forced to go from Win7 to Win 10. Mine would not run either until I did this install. Hope your on Win10!?? Assume Win10 because Win7 end of life is in January 2020. If not, do nothing YELL!!

Jason summarized in his post above #9.

Just make sure you install the right C++ 2008 redistributable . Check if your system is 32bit or 64bit first that's important!! Need help yell, someone will be there!

Please post for all of us if you were successful either way! There are plenty of computer guys here that can help you get JTCS running!

Regards,
Big Ivan
