Pbem question

I'm thinking I'll start a pbem. Even holiday Matrix sales still high price in my country according to exchange rates -comparison to Steam-. So I pbem in Steam version. As it auto update will it ruin pbem game?

No issues with any updates of the games as all ongoing games (AI or multiplayer such as PBEM++) will be compatible with future updates.

Assuming the system is the same as for the previous SC titles, the only issue, as far as I know, is if both players don't upgrade to the identical version.

I remember such an upgrade happening part way through a match of SC:WaW. The game continued fine, but I did finish the match knowing that my Chinese would have enjoyed an additional army had we started under the current version.
