Brainstorm: Victory Points

Post by bcgames »

Here is the current state of affairs:

Victory
The winner is the side which has most Victory Points at the end of the game. Victory Points (VPs) are awarded for destroying enemy ground units and occupying a victory point location. No victory points are awarded for damaged ground units. No points are awarded Air, Naval, or Ground Assets.

Now that we can count the "eaches" (men/guns/vehicles/planes), what would you like to see in the future for how victory is determined in a scenario?

Using men/guns/vehicles/planes as another method for scoring victory points, how many men = one gun, one vehicle (tank), or one plane? Or is destroyed equipment counted for what it is...a worthless piece of junk. Or are men the expendable piece in the victory equation? Dunno.

Seems logical enough for now. Glad to see all the posts and the new scenario. This extra, extra effort means this soul will be buying your next game as well. Maybe a few other devs here will learn this lesson.

Merry Christmas to you.

Unless someone can propose a change to this vector, we're done here.

Can an accounting be made of what's left of a player's force? As in, who is still in any condition to fight at the end of the scenario? We have had a casualty and VL-based standard for victory for as long as I've been playing wargames (early 1980's), but fewer instances of tracking surviving forces and combat capability moving forward.

I suppose it would work through an end-game tally of forces, with some weighting of forces with things like quality and supply factored in.

This could have some bearing when and if scenarios link up together. And for things like preserving one's force in a manner that would be more akin to someone that had to actually plan for a future set of battles.

Hi,

How about variable VP's for locations? eg. Instead of location "A" being worth 5 points for each turn for the entire game, let it be worth 10 points per turn from turns 1 to 3 then 5 each from turns 4 to 6 and 2 points per turn thereafter. This has the added benefit of giving the player some idea of what and when higher HQ wants him to accomplish.
