AI and Felix

Post by Uxbridge »

Question to you who have played against the AI as the Allies/USSR:

I had two Allied games behind me, where I defeated the AI by 1942/43, mostly by hanging on to Denmark and Netherlands early. In order to help him get to the invasion of the USSR, I neglected to defend Denmark/Norway and the Benelux, so that the German offensive wouldn't lose speed. I held on in France a while, but took BEF out in July/August, with the German gaining Vichy around September. Fine, I thougth, and now for Russia. But no, no. Instead the AI surprisingly declared war on the Vichy, and then went on to invade Spain. It stopped before attacking Gibraltar and attacked Yugoslavia. All this led to a fresh and entertaining situation during the Christmas holidays, but again, once USSR could declare war, Germany was soon finished.

I would like the game to advance on it's natural course towards Barbarossa. My question is now: does the AI have some random war goals to "choose", or will it again attack Spain once I get this far? Of course, I could start with the 1941 scenario, but I rather begin in 1939.

What is your experience of this?

It's random. Maybe weighted in some way, but I don't know about that.

I have noticed if you hold out in France past about august the Germans go for Vichy pretty regularly.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

They like time to prepare, perhaps. But maybe, just to be sure, I better choose the 1941 scenario. I want to play USSR proper for once.

Had similar games with allies as well, but was told is number of different strategies the AI will use.

Maybe as a play balance Russia does not get the reserve infantry divisions in the que if they attack first?

Germany should have some minimum level of strength on the east before expanding the war.

Played as Allies at Historical Level. After Poland, the AI went first after Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium and France. I pulled troops of the maginot line to protect Paris (Mistake). I had 3/4 of my troops left when France surrendered due to poor morale.(Germany had captured key areas to lower my morale-Ugh) The AI then went after Yugoslavia and once it took it, it attacked Russia(Can't remember the date??) Russia began to push back by late 42. Germans never got close to Leningrad, Moscow or Stalingrad. I kept falling back enough so they couldn't punch holes through my front lines. That was my first game as Allies.

As Allies, I am starting with Europe 1941 to be sure to have a Barbarossa. Increase the AI level for a good challenge. Still, AI is not protecting its flanks. You can do some limited counter blows. The limiting factor is the state of the Russian army more than the AI.

for a decent AI experience after your first learner games go for elite difficulty exp modifier, and the optimal supply setting. the AI punches lines, and gives you a hell of a fight in barbarossa etc. creates
