Carrier Air numbers - infinite?

Post by AlbertN »

In one of my games I encountered a strange situation.

There was a CV and a BB parked in a port, in range of the whole Luftwaffe pratically.

Fighters swept in first and began to hammer down the Carrier Air factors (no defending enemy air due to shortage of enemy fighters around).
The Carrier Planes took a beating. Way more over 10 by multiple attacks by 4 land based Interceptors.

Then bombers can in, and it just seemed the carrier planes (about 5-6 bombers) were ever present, and even mauling the bombers.

Do a Carrier automatically regenerates each attack their amount of Carrier Planes? Because it seemed very iffy to me how the combat developed, and pratically makes carriers invincible even when under massive land based air attack.

Every hit you see doesn't necessarily apply to a strength point loss - is that what you're referring to?

Ships in port are harder to sink. There is a 70% chance if they go under 1 strength they just stay there bottomed out.

Page 8 of the manual makes a mention of bottoming out ships in port but apparently I forgot to put that in naval combat. Let me add it to the rules corrections.

70% is based on the # of actual BBs sunk at Pearl Harbor and Taranto.

I mean litterally that the combat popup shows that the Carrier lost X Air units. When the X air units total goes to 30+ (roughly as it is not reported in the Combat Log proper) it just seems that the carriers have infinite planes.

I am not referring to the Carrier Unit Health Points, but litterally the fact it has infinite air squadrons embarked.

Ok I'll take a look. I will set up some port strikes.

I did some testing. I reduced the bottoming out to 40%. There were other factors involved in the formulas.

As for the CV air and hits.

CV air regenerates with the ship. If the shit is under 50% strength, if I remember, CVs won't fly. CVs can't intercept if in port.
