coastal defence

Post by Duck Doc »

Bought a bunch of coastal defense units as the Germans to put them on the NW French coast. Deployed them as sprites on coastal hexes but by next turn they disappeared. Is this normal and just what to the defense units do? Do they just increase defense value of hex? Why do the sprites disappear?

(Also there is persistence of "LIGHT" message after air attack on units after attack. Not a big deal but would be nice if they were gone.)

Thanks,

If they disappeared that must be some kind of bug - but right now these things are relatively useless if they work only and exclusively against beach attacks.
Unless you can litterally man each and every hex, the enemy will land at your side and then attack from the land.

If you think it is a bug, please report it in the Beta thread of this forum.

The "Light" message stays on the map?

It shouldn't.

The “ LIGHT” message persists throughout the turn after each attack.

Would like to know exactly what effect they have. Then I could decide if I want to fortify or not.

If they are truly worthless then why bother having them in the game?

How about the ability to purchase land forts as well? I was pleased to see the Maginot Line and Siegfried Wall in place.

Not a big deal one way or the other but having "worthless" anything in a game of this caliber would be annoying.

(Other questions: are mechanized infantry (Panzer Grenadier) and armored (Panzer) units interchangeable? How do you distinguish foot infantry from motorized infantry by looking at the counters?)

Mech and Armored are different unit types, they have different factors. They don't interchange during the game.
There are no 'motorised' infantry, just some units with a motorised name that are actually infantry.

Soars high above the clouds;
Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.

Page 58 of the manual.
They cost 30PPs (1/2 a division).
-20% on the attacker and makes a terrain considered rugged which reduces retreat.

Decision if they are worth it depends on your strategy and how you deploy them.

If you can send me a save before you deployed the coastal fortifications it would be great.

Alvaro,

Thanks for the manual page reference. I am visually impaired and have a hard time reading and I missed it first times through and would not have thought to go back to look there. One of the huge attractions of this game is that it is highly intuitive which, as you can imagine, is a big attraction for me.

Don't have a save game before deploying the Coastal Defense units but only one save where I have newly deployed 2 of them. I had deployed a few others before but their sprites are not showing. I can send one next time through if you wish.

Thanks for the great game.
