how to interdict the Ledo Road?

Post by Treefrog »

The Ledo Road ran from Ledo, Assam, India to Kunming in China (presumably through the Pangsau Pass and Wanting).
Specifically what hex/hexes must the Japanese control to interdict the road?

Is capturing the terminus at Kunming sufficient?

Per the strategy guide
DE 305 - USA: Send Supplies To China Via The Burma Road?  Event fires: When Kunming, Rangoon, Mandalay and Lashio are in Allied hands, Haiphong port is in Axis hands, and neither China nor Japan have surrendered.  Cost of accepting: 175 MPPs at 35 MPPs a turn for 5 turns.  Yes: China will receive 60 MPPs per turn for as long as all of Kunming, Rangoon, Mandalay and Lashio are in Allied hands, and Hanoi is in Axis hands.  Note: If Hanoi falls into Allied hands then supplies will revert to arriving in China via the Hanoi-Kunming Railway, providing the USA said yes to DE 304).

Thanx Mercutio, but after the Burma Road was cut off in Burma the allies built a "cut-off" from Ledo to avoid the Japanese army interdiction of the western end. I haven't noticed as the Chinese player whether this happens in this game. Does anybody know?

I dont think so? In every game where this has been cut off for me it is always the chinese end that is cut off first.

It wasn’t a road. The Allies flew supplies from Ledo in what was known as ‘The Hump’

With respect, according to wikipedia more than 1000 American troops died building this road which opened January 1945.

my bad...never knew that

I think the game just reflects the airlift that preceeded the road
from the strategy manual p6
One thing to consider is that capturing Ledo in India would strike a strong blow at China as the capture of one or the other will halt all allied supply flights over “The Hump” from India into China. This would significantly reduce China’s income, making it easier to conquer!
